I would have to say the Glock is the Honda Accord...reliable, has billions of parts...and runs well...regardless of treatment....but thats my opinion....Comment

Not necessarily YOUR vehicle, but A vehicle.
Ex: Model 36 J-frame Smith: 2-door Chevy Cavalier
Made in America, small, convenient, at one time they were everywhere

Honda Accord?...
I think that it'd be more appropriate to compare the Glock/XD/M&P to the Honda Civic/Toyota Corolla/Nissan Sentra. All over the place, inexpensive, and reliable.
Here's an overused comparison, but appropriate: M1911s are like the Chevy small block of the gun world.
AK-47 pattern rifles are like the Volkswagen Beetle. Millions made, dirt cheap, and a little crude, but incredibly reliable.Comment

I agree with the 1911 and the small block Chevy comparison. Or old Ford Mustangs. Both are old, low-tech designs that have been superseded a long time ago by better designs. There's a ton of aftermarket crap you can hang on them.
By contrast I think a SIG compares with a BMW. Obviously German, and the SIG is a modern design in the barrel lockup, heavy duty aluminum frame, etc. The parts are machined to such close tolerances that you can buy a factory barrel and drop it into any gun.Comment
