    redcliff,
Sure it might look cleaner. But why would you want a underfolder that don't fold?
It would be like a one legged man in a butt kicking contest without a leg to stand on!

Lol, I understand your point, it's just that welding would ruin his finish

I liked the one with the spike out the back, you wouldn't need a rifle rack just bayonet the butt into the ground or a tree

I want an underfolder that won't fold so I won't be arrested for possessing a Cat 3 AW.

can someone link me the text on the 30" minimum? we (EAI) had a long conversation with the DOJ about this a few weeks back and we were told repeatedly and firmly that the minimum is 26" - we were even given a copy of the penal code to look at (Ill try to dig it up).

12276.1. (a) Notwithstanding Section 12276, "assault weapon" shall also mean any of the following:

Exactly. Here's a link direct to 12276 on the CA DOJ website. http://caag.state.ca.us/firearms/dwcl/12275.htm

and since there is CA case law that states that the 26" measurement must be done with the stock folded/collapsed, that same rule would probably apply to the 30" rule as well.

Sorry, for some reason I misread what you did. Meh, different strokes for different folks. If I ever move out of state (or visit), I can just swap out the pin and whamm-o, it's back to normal. With what you and JHC did, you'll have to cut the nut (or chisel in JHC's case) grind, and refinish the rear trunion which is now hard to find and costs a small fortune, so be careful with that grinder.

Is there any requirement that a registered AW be 26" long when folded?
I was under the impression CA followed federal law up until the ban of 2000.

Though few rifles are under 26" collapsed..

Under 26" is a federal SBR.

CA Case law says that rifles must be measured in the shorted possible position. http://www.cs.cmu.edu/afs/cs/usr/wba...e_v_rooney.txt . That would apply to all rifles, including Registered AWs.

Federal law allows for measurement with the stock unfolded, but CA requires it to be folded, then measured. So, there are firearms out there that are less than 26" folded, but still legal federally. One example would be the UZI. Federally, UZIs came with 16" barrels, but in CA, they needed an 18" barrel to make length with the stock folded. Another example would be folding AKs. That is what Rooney found out when his folding AK measured out at 25.75" folded.

I remember working in a California gun shop in the early 80's and we used to sell quite a few 16" barrell folding stock Uzi's. I wonder when the law went into effect, and what happened to all those Uzi's.

My personal registerred AW Uzi has a fixed (screwed on, not quick detachable) wooden stock, as I always liked shooting them better with it.

Law was a made up law by LE that did not know the law and a overzealous prosecutor wanting to get the crankster convicted of something and a anti-gun judge making the ruling. CA law mimicked federal law until 1993 even in wording but because they left out the section of "(sic) measured with stock folded" provision it left it up to interpretation.

The legal system only cared about a conviction instead of common sense. The ruling resulted in between 40,000 to 80,000 Californians becoming instant felons by being in violation of this made up law (judges should enforce the law and not make it up as they go by making rulings). I had to buy an 18" barrel for my uzi because of this. Fortunately because there were like 3 states including Michigan that specifically stated measured in the shortest possible configuration that it can be fired in the makers of the uzi also offered the 18" barrel for those states all ready. I won't tell you what I did with my 16" barrel. The feds of constructive intent laws but I would not be in violation of that. Have not heard of constructive intent with the state laws except in regards to bombs/booby traps.

I am waiting for the day that the anti-gunners to pick and choose the laws so that they pick the Federal definition when it is to their advantage and say threaded devices on barrels don't count unless permanently attached by fusion weld blah blah blah, then in the same breath say that the federal definition of measuring with stock folded does not count.

Technically you could two thread your slant muzzle break and just make 26". If anyone has heard of any ruling about threaded muzzle devices not counting toward the 26" length I would like to know.

Wish the gun grabbers would stop harassing law abiding gun owners by turning them into instant felons.
