I go to the desert every year and thought of a cheap, lightweigt and compact rack system I used Harbor freight sawhorses bought on sale for 12 bucks

I bought the corrugated eaves fillers used on plastic roof sheets, for a buck at the local Ace Hardware store

And voila. The worlds cheapest folding gun rack:

My 3-Gun cart made from a modified and upgraded Harbor Freight welding tanks cart. Pictures are a year old, I have made a few minor changes to it since then. Just put some bigger tires on the rims and changed the tubes, to replace the cheap Chinese parts.

It's real easy to push/pull around rough terrain fully loaded, up/down the hills, through sandy/rocky terrain. During the hot summer months, I even have a large shade umbrella on a telescoping pole to provide shade for the guns and us to sit under.

It carries the guns for two competitors, their ammo, mags, gear, and cooler.

That was just a placement cooler. My buddy and I use a larger cooler.

I have a cool rifle rack too that I fabricated. It breaks down and folds up into a small portable case. I just have to take some pictures of it.

I'm trying to save up for some more wall so the ones on the floor will have something to get leaned up against.

LOL, at first glance I thought it was a motorized wheelchair with a gun rack built in. That would be sweet!

I wonder if you could wire in a remote control for one.. Hmmmmmm...

Just be careful. Plastic and hot barrels don't mix. Most of the time I need a rifle rack is when we're sending a lot of lead downrange. The barrels are way hot and we set them on the rack to cool down. You have to watch what the barrels rest on...

My buddies rear plastic SUV bumper can attest to that.

Wow, aren't they a bit young to be touching and playing with racks?

Here is my suitcase rifle/carbine rack. I built it in ~2000-2001 out of plywood and hardware from Home Depot. It traveled with me to the ranges and many camping trips over the years. Getting battered and bounced around in my truck bed and exposed to the elements.

My friend Steve brought it back to life last year, when he saw how worn it looked. He sanded the weathered plywood, brushed on a coupe coats of varnish, replaced some of the hardware. It's just as good as new.

I have eye hook bolts on each the side plate. They are to facilitate bungee cords strapped across each side, to prevent rifle falling off the rack with rough handling.

The only thing I would change, are the rifle slots on the top plate. I would stagger the cut-outs, so that the barrels/handguards of the rifles opposite don't interfere with each other.

I made it to fit the various sizes/lengths of my rifles, carbines, & shotguns.

The ply wood one is a great idea. I like that. I may have found something to do.
