Gun return timeline

My stolen 1911 was recovered back in Feb. and I was notified of that fact about a week later by the Sheriff's Office here.
Today I called the property room to find out when I might be able to expect the gun to be returned. Apparently, the gun has to be checked to see if it has been involved in any crimes. So, the gun was sent to the DA's crime lab the 1st of last month. Apparently, there is a 6 month - 12 month wait, or turn around time, once they get the gun, until they return it.
After that, I have to submit paperwork to the DOJ to get my background cleared to see if I can posess my stolen gun. Another 4 - 6 weeks.
Anybody have an legal ideas, not involving violence, that can speed up the crime lab.

No way to speed it up and DO NOT send the form into DOJ until the local PD has told you the weapon has been released from hold.

A friend is going through this for the third time (they have recovered 3 of 5 so far) but none of his were submitted to the crime lab even though the pistols were all recovered from criminals.

And you won't be able to speed up the crime lab. Test fires for NIBIN entry and comparisons are low on the priority list for the crime lab. Other crimes will take priority over your gun. However, they always say 6 months. I would recommend calling once a month to see if it's been returned from the lab. Good luck!
