Funny Mosin?

I was at the range the other day and I noticed two guys shooting a Mosin. When I looked closer I noticed they were using a towel on their shoulder to stop some of the recoil. It had me thinking of what the Russian's went through back in the day with those rifles. During a conflict did any Russian infantry man have to use any kind of towel to help with recoil or were they tuff enough to deal with it.

the recoil isn't even that bad.. i dont understand it

one of the deadliest snipers of all time used a mosin nagant and he was alittle over 5 feet tall

I have a Mosin and a Yugo and I never need a towel. I also had to have a shoulder surgery when I got out of the Corps, and I have no problems with either of them.

I take the steel butt plate to the meat just fine. It's not that bad. I think some mausers I shot were worse. Of course I'm not some scrawny, starved Russian with just a winter jacket on in Stalingrad. I doubt they cared much if it did bruise and batter them....thems is Nazis out there shooting at them and their bolt action rifles with MG42s and MP40s!

Mosins are one of the softest recoiling .30 cal carbines out there. Mausers are a bit worse, but the M95's takes the cake for recoil.

Than again recoil is something you get used to over time. I remembered when a Mosin and a .357 magnum revolver was something I consider painful. Now I can dump an 870 full of slugs without a hitch and anything below .460 S&W is one hand territory, it's a trip to realize I can now shoot .454 Casull with my strong hand and at least a .44 magnum with my weak hand, all through a 4" barrel. I am now looking into the big game calibers, I think a .375 H&H is claling my name in the future. After that it will be one of the Nitro's or T-Rex rounds.

I weigh 140lbs and fire about (before the surplus dried up) 200 rounds out of a M44 on single outings. If you tuck the stock were it's suppose to be there is no problem. Then again I don't use earplugs sometimes.

Most didn't live long enough to fire enough rounds to bruise the shoulder.

was it a 44 or 91? my 44 kicks like a mule, dont know why. but the 91 isn't that bad.

I agree, I would bet that taking incomming rounds would change one's perception about recoil.....

It looked liked a 44, but still who uses a towel to go shoot with? "On my way to the range I hope I don't forget to bring my recoil towel".

I don't think people complained about recoil until recent years when the newer and "more sensitive" generation of adult males have taken over. Gun recoil is not supposed to hurt.

I'm not a big person (or some super tough guy) at all, but I don't feel any pain from any recoil from any gun I've shot. I've even shot a .700 nitro express and although it pushed back hard, it didn't hurt. I also put over 300 rounds through my mosin last monday and I didn't feel a thing. I honestly believe that people feel recoil for two reasons, the first and biggest factor is they are doing it wrong. They simply have bad technique. The second reason is they are girly-men.
