and why I haven't seen any barrett m82a1 around California ? is it because barrell and civilian can't have those? so far from what I've tried to shot is Bohika .50 dtc.

There are a few 82s and 82CAL rifles around. They've always been more expensive, so they aren't as prevalent as the regular bolt rifles/conversions.

The 82CAL version was only released in response to California's assault weapon legislation requiring a 'fixed' magazine. Rather than a bullet-button arrangement, it had a magazine that dropped down, but was still attached to the rifle at a foward hinge.

Serbu's making a semi-auto now that uses the 82a magazines and a bullet button type lock from Darin Prince. (BMG or DTC versions)

Not to derail the thread but what is the accuracy like coming out of those .50s? Always wondered how the barrels compared to some of the more traditional shoulder fired rifles. Is there any possibility to mount a scope on those beltfeds like Carlos Hathcock?

The 82a rifles generally shoot 3-4moa groups, and the M2HB beltfeds about the same. The both use a recoiling barrel to cycle the actions, so they aren't typically bullseye shooters. There are things that can be done to tighten up groups to get them to shoot closer to 2moa.

The new Serbu is gas operated and early reports are looking like it's a 1-2moa gun out of the box. One guy reports sub MOA with handloads.

The M2HB receivers have the option of mounting a dovetail scope mount for nightvision and such, but they've been adapted to accommodate regular scopes too.

2-3moa sounds about right which makes the 2500 yard confirmed kill in Iraq with a M107 kinda amazing since it was originally developed to detonate mines and disable APC's - not personnel.

How'd your rifle like that HSM ammo back then?
I remember a Cobb FAS-50 getting locked up tight shooting a hot shipment of that stuff around that time.

Serbu did something similar. He sold half-completed rifles for half-price to people that didn't have the money to pay for the whole thing right away so they could get in before the deadline.

ahh those were the days. Did you attend any of the meets that Frank and Jolene arranged at the Eagles Nest at ASR? If you were there, we may have met...One of the most memorable moments was when we did belt dumps out of 7 M2HB's all at once. Good times...lost my video of it when I split with my ex g/f.

As far as the HSM ammo - so far so good. Haven't had any "hot" loads yet but still have about a hundred rounds of it left. Maybe I'll just use it out of my M2...
