Trading firearm(s) for ammo. Worth it?

Ok, I see people selling ammo in the marketplace and also WTT their ammo for firearms. Now to me this doesn't make sense. Why sell or trade your gun for ammo when ammo will b used and u can't re use it like a gun (over and over) IMO I think it's plain stupid to trade your gun for ammo. What are your thoughts?

I agree. I put it in the same category as pawning your tools to pay the bills when you are out of work. Although supply is less than demand, it will eventually come back.

Not always, if you have a gun or two or more that just sit in the safe because you don't like shooting them anymore for whatever reason. Why not trade them for ammo for the guns you do enjoy shooting.
You have to buy ammo one way or another. So instead of selling a gun for cash, then spending money on ammo, cut out the middle man and just trade for ammo you'd just buy anyway.

IMO not worth the trade. I rather have the firearms than ammo. Ammo will eventually get stocked. Some firearms are a bit** to find and DROS. I fell the people will get rid of their junky guns for the trade. However, look at all the fools trading in their guns for a gift card. Does not make sense either. Just sillyness...

I can see trading a junker or an unused common firearm, would you trade your second vehicle for gas? All depends on the situation I guess. For me, not if I can help it. But if they were to never produce ammo agian I would have to let some go. Ammo is out there, just expensive (because our money is worthless)

I just can't see myself trading my firearms for ammo. I rather spend the cash to buy ammo than to give up my guns.

I don't see myself doing it.... If there was a great deal on ammo for I gun I hated, maybe. Ammo costs money so eventually you are going to spend the value of a gun in ammo. I have done firearm trades and the other guy has sweetened the deal with ammo. Kind of the same thing if you think about it.

What if you don't have the cash to buy ammo or can't find any? Then it makes sense to trade that Hi-Point for ammo to run through a real gun.

It doesn't seem smart to me to trade a durable good like a firearm for an expendable item like ammo.

I've only acquired one firearm based on ammo trade. This was before 2012 panic and the ammo I traded was worth about 30% more retail wise for the used firearm. Even trades value won't cut it if you are going to do this.

I don't like the idea of giving up a firearm for ammo, however it depends on the trade. Assuming I am desperate for ammo and I have 3 AR's each valued at $1,000 and I get an offer for ammo @ 25-30 cents a round, it might be worth trading 1.

For 10,000rds of ammo I would consider. That would also depend on the gun!

While it normally doesn't make sense to trade a durable good for a consumable, in some cases it is perfectly acceptable. For instance I paid for two recent gun purchases with ammo. In both instances the owners were selling a gun they no longer needed/wanted and had posted cash prices. I simply made an offer of ammo in lieu of cash. We worked out a mutually agreeable amount and caliber and the deal was done.

So then, nobody will trade a Sig x5 for my 15,000 rounds of 22?
