Didn't want to wait anymore so I headed over to Riverside Magnum Range today and put about 350 rounds through my S&W M&P 15-22. My first experience shooting and I gotta say I had a blast. Unfortunately it is basically an indoor pistol range so I could only shoot 50 feet but I am not complaining I had a great time.
Totally blown away by how loud a .45 caliber handgun is. My god I wasn't expecting that. I have only ever heard 9mm fired and the first couple of shots I thought that has to be a shotgun or something haha.
Really don't know how to judge my accuracy considering I was only 50 feet away but I hit a quarter sized bullseye about 8/10 times most mags. It felt accurate to me anyways, as someone who has only ever fired bb guns and recurve bows at least. I really can't wait to go somewhere where I can take 50-100 yard shots. If all goes according to plan i'll be doing that on Wednesday.
At one point I had a shell case pop out and land on my forearm and start burning me a little bit. I thought about shaking my arm to get it off or whatever but thought nah... this is my first time out, I want a scar lol. My stepfather told me it is because i'm left handed and that I should get used to it or wear long sleeve shirts.
I used 3 different types of ammo. I got lucky and met some guy from craigslist last night who sold me 2 bricks of winchester m-22. I had a 50 round box of winchester super x and 200 rounds of federal game shok. The game shok was by far the best round from what I could tell and the super x hollow points were second. The Winchester M-22 failed to load properly a few times. At one point a round failed to load so I ejected it and picked up the bullet and the tip of the bullet wasn't very secure inside the casing it scared me when I grabbed it and the tip moved a little bit.
Overall I would say for a first timer I did pretty good. I didn't point my gun at anyone or drop it at least lol. I can definitely see this becoming like a 2x a week thing for me as long as I have ammo.
Weird thing was the gun jammed on my stepfather a few times and he got some casings stuck in the bolt. I figured him being the marine and me being the noob it would have been the opposite way but it fired flawlessly for me.
I heard a lot of people saying that the promag 10 rounders dont feed the last round in the clip and my first 10 mags i'd say that was true 8/10 times but my last 20 mags it only happened like 3-4 times. I am still going to fix it but it was not a huge problem overall.
Anyways, sorry for the long post it was just an awesome day for me and I wanted to share it with some people!
