High Capacity Magazines

Okay here is my question and I am going to get a lot of probarly negative feedback on this, buyt why do we as citizens really need high capacity magazines?

Prior to all this last 15 years or so crazyness with magazines and stuff a lot of people, including law enforcement agencies made do with either 6-shot .357 revolvers or 7 or 8 shot .45 semi auto magazines.

I mean for most people, me included I will not need my gun for most of my life for any type of protection. It will just be a gun loaded in the nightstand by the bed, that I take fishing or I slip into my waist band when I hear a loud noise or dogs barking at night.

If I can't eliminate the threat with either 6 rounds out of .357 revolver or 8 rounds out of 4506 45 what good would 15 shoots of 9mm be?

Would either just be a overkill or oh endanger my neighbors, or family if I let loose that many rounds.

I am not for laws against high capacity magazines, but where is the need for people to have them?

The reason the founding fathers created the second amendment was to ensure that if we citizens ever needed to violently revolt against a tyrannical government like we once did against the British, we would be able to match that tyrannical government's firepower and we wouldn't be outgunned. The reason we need high capacity magazines is for the highly unlikely event that we would need to revolt against a government that would be employing troops with high capacity magazines against us.

That is the only reason I can give that we would *need* high capacity magazines, but that point is moot because we have the *right* to high capacity magazines from the 2nd amendment regardless of the reason why.

there was just recently a case where a BG chased a woman into her attic where she finally shot at the guy, hitting him 5 times from a 6 shot revolver. The guy then fled, got in his car and drove away. what if there were two BGs?

in free states, standard cap mags are usually 15 or 17 rds. cali goes by restricted standards, hence why people think anything over 10 rds his hi cap.

How is this even a question?

With all of the reported incidents of bad guys surviving, running away, why do you think the police use handguns with magazines that hold 13 rounds or more?

Did you ever consider that maybe if you can't hit anything after 5-6 rounds, you could simply stop? Having a 30 round magazine does not mean to need to blindly fire it in a random direction.

Great explanations above. If I have a 30 round magazine and only use 10, great. If I have a 10 round magazine and I needed 30 I'm screwed. We can go on and on about circumstances, but when you need more than 10 rounds there is no going back. It is too late to get those extra rounds. It is very rare that law enforcement needs rifles, but they still have them. When situations occur where they are necessary, although very rare, they have them. As a person at home it may be very rare you would need a high capacity magazine, but when you need one you will be glad you had it. We don't live in a perfect society. Evil can attack anyone at anytime. Be prepared.

Fast cars
Booze
Tobacco Products
Big Houses
Free Speech
Candy

Just remember, its a Bill of Rights not a bill of needs, if it bothers you, there are plenty of places in this world where they don't allow guns let alone high capacity magazines.

The question "why do you need..." is flawed to begin with.

The reason private citizens need high capacity magazines is the same as why the cowboys needed lever action rifles, why the pioneers needed muskets, why the caveman developed the bow and arrow to use against all sorts of beast.

The reason is bad guys have full auto firearms. We don't. We need all the help we can get. You may be Dirty Harry, capable of dropping people with one shot, but the rest of us know our limitations.

You know, I'm with you. All LEOs need to turn in those dangerous 10+ round mags. And the Secret Services need to turn in their weapons and get issued a double barrel shotgun.

If you can finish the job with 6 shots, good for you, leave the rest in the mag. When you start limiting rounds there will be someone who says the same thing about having two or three shots. Don't start playing this game.

Why does the OP need to post this question? Wouldn't any reasonable citizen be satisfied with their own opinion? Where is the need for high capacity opinion threads?

If one is not content with 6 or 7 posts, maybe that person is doing Calguns wrong.

If you watch the vid, you will notice Lance Thomas begins to upgrade from revolvers to semi autos.
