    STEN!!....old project of mine.

its been done for a long time now, just never have gotten around to taking pics until now.

Semi auto closed bolt sten, im planning to make a fake supressor for it so that barrel isnt sticking out so far.

Nice. What did you use for the bolt? SAS3 or a homemade bolt?

Also, I noticed you welded a washer into the hole on the T-stock. You wouldn't happen to have a copy of the DOJ letter stating that's required would you?

It was a SAS3 bolt, i made my own striker and recoil setup, as well as modified the trigger assembly so that the full auto setting results in a trigger block saftey. The receiver was cut so that the trigger bar cant move when its in the full auto spot, as well as a block welded inside the trigger housing.

I also welded in a washer so i couldnt fit my thumb through the hole on the stock so it couldnt be considered a thumbhole stock, just as a precaution. I know its not designed as a thumbhole, but i could fit my thumb in it so i decided to weld in the washer.

It shoots good, is very accurate too.

            Nice!

I really need to get a 9mm project started. I'm on the fence about an AK, uzi clone, or others like a sten. I need more time to read up on what's going on with what's out there now.

It just hit me! This is featureless huh? So you get detachable mags with this baby. That is very cool

Thanks guys, i've been meaning to post it for a few months now, just never had the camera around when i remembered i should take a few pics of it.

Its a really fun gun, shoots very accurately for what it is, and has pretty much no kick.

Its my first project gun that required welding, which im not very good at, but it came out decent, and is safe to shoot, its a tube with some junk bolted to it, so i figure it doesnt have to be too pretty.

Wow, thats awsome. Did you scrap off a parts kit or is most of this your own? Also did you have a guide to work off of or id you just wing it? Either way it looks great, I'd love to do something like that but wouldn't know where to start.

Was built from a parts kit, SAS3 bolt, and SAS3 template.

I got my own tubing and made my own receiver instead of paying too much for the 80% they sell. I also made my own striker to solve the binding problem the original strikers have.

The tube is the reduced diameter, which i turned out the back and front to fit original rear cap and trunions, but left the bolt area reduced ID so to keep it legal so you cant insert a original bolt.

The tube was also cut so that the trigger bar cant move when in the full auto position, which blocks any trigger movement at all. The trigger group also has a block welded in to prevent any trigger movement in the auto position too, so it works just as a saftey. A bar was welded on the disconnector too so just in case both the tube and the block get the block removed the disconnector will still let it function in semi auto only.

This is alot of effort, but in the SAS3 kit it says to just simply weld the selector in the semi position and leave it at that.

                        Sal:

So if one is not as skilled as you but still wants to do this I could go with a receiver and conversion it from http://www.indianapolisordnance.com/sten_mk3.html

and aquire a parts kit and I would have all the stuff I need? I have basic welding skills and it appears I may need to rivet some as well. Other then that are there any "big" problems i may run into?

                        Thanks

Did you design your own striker and recoil rod system, or did you copy the SAS3 design? If you made your own, and it works well, post up some internal pics!

its my own design, its just fairly simple barstock turned to the tube ID just like the bolt, with a rectangular extension. it has two holes bored through it for the standard recoil spring guide rods, the top hole is wider so the spring fits through it too.

I was talking to you at the show today regarding some Ruger parts. Congratulations on the Sten. I have a parts kit that I started to clean up about 20 years ago and just recently dug out. It reminded me that I bought a bunch of mags at the same time.
