Mistaken 1 in 30 dros fallout

I purchased an RIA tactical from Turner's last fall. After I bought it I noticed that there was something wrong with the frame. I sent it to RIA and 7 weeks later they shipped a replacement gun to Turner's. After some paperwork error's on their part I finally was able to dros it. 2 days later I noticed that Turner's had not dros'd it as a replacement but as a 1 in 30 dros. I was told to come back to the store and they would re-dros it correctly at their cost. Fast forward 2 weeks; I buy a new Springer and dros it, and now today I get a call from my LGS telling me my dros was being refused by CA DOJ 2 days before I was to pick the Springer up because I was inside my 1 in 30 purchase. It looks like Turner's screwed up the second dros too or never cancelled the first dros. My LGS told me to call CA DOJ and let them know the problem and they might give the dros a go ahead letter, if not then I have to wait the remainder of the 30 days and pay another dros fee! Has anyone had DOJ clear up a mistake like this and if so, how long did it take. I do plan on letting Turner's know!

Why didn't RIA just ship it to your door? No FFL involvement was required. As for calling the DOJ, good luck with that.

New frame = new serial number. CA DOJ law requires a dros and waiting period with the new serial number. In a free state RIA most likely could have just shipped me a new replacement but here in Kali, not so.

I've always been curious how diligent the CA DOJ is about the 1 every 30 rule. I guess they do pay attention.

might as well just wait it out, it would probly take more than 30 days to get it sorted out anyways with the DOJ.

It is terrible but you are just better off being patient and just waiting it out. I am still waiting for a replacement from a manufacturer. So far, it has been nearly 6 months because they suck and have been giving me and the LGS a runaround.

New serial number is likley the cause. The new frame had a different serial #, California calls that a "new gun". Same thing happened to me with an RIA Tac being replaced on warranty and Armscor had ask DOJ for permission then ship to my FFL + a new 10 day wait.

You'll never get through to CA DOJ. Ever.

They screwed up a DROS and said I was in violation of 1-per-30 and it wasn't. There were 31 days in January, and apparently the DOJ monkeys can't do math correctly. I timed it down to the hour.

FFL called me with the DOJ phone number and I called it every day for a week, at least 50 times a day. Never got through.

Decided just to wait a couple more weeks and re-DROS. My time/money is better spent doing that than trying to call DOJ for 8 hours a day.

And you need to watch the Turners employees like a hawk, otherwise they will for sure screw up a "non-standard" DROS like that. For things like that, go to smaller shops like Ade's, Straightline, EBR, etc.

I dont live in SoCal but up here in NorCal. I have done many ppt's. Two with Turners. Second time was bad service. Not only dont they deal with guns but other stuff too. I know the people behind the gun counter work only in that area I believe. I may be wrong about that.
With my experience and yours, I will plan next time to do other places.
I noticed when they are swamped with customers things tend to get hectic. May be true for other stores too.
Just thought I would toss my 2 cents. Not trying to give Turners a bad name, just have somewhat of an ill feeling about them.

You're probably going to be among the "Look how many illegal gun sales were prevented by background checks and registration" statistics quoted by the leftists!

This seems to be my pattern too! I've tried two different numbers for two days now and all I get is a busy signal. What's the point of the DOJ putting out contact numbers if you can't contact them?! I finally sent an email explaining the problem with all the dros numbers, dates etc; hopefully I'll hear back from them but I'm not holding my breath after these last two days. I may have to do what other posters have said and just eat the additional time and money! Grrrrrr

Reason to stay away from Turner's. They lost me a great trade for messing up PPT procedures and I have not step into their store for over 2 years since that time.
