I have a NV CCW as a non-resident. The training is simple, easy and very worthwhile. There are NV specific laws that make the day worth it. The effort and frustration in trying to get a FL/UT/AZ/WTF permit far exceeds the day it takes to just get the NV one.

I used ArmedandSafe and was mostly happy. They are very ignorant about CA law, but since I'm using them to get a NV permit that was to be expected. It was cheap, easy and simple.

oh, well that stinks. SO now you have to get two if you go out to Laughlin by way of Las Vegas....I guess it's just another fee! OR stay on the other side of the river! BOO
The answer to 1984 is 1776!

It's not a change, it's been that way since NV became shall issue.

There is one NV CCW instructor that did NV CCW classes in other states (NV/AZ). He got away with it because he is buddy buddy with some admins in LVMPD.

See post #12 in this thread as to why NV does not honor CA.

As stated, I allowed two days in my quest for a Nevada Concealed Firearm Permit.

I already had Monday off in honor of the Great Farm Worker, so I requested a vacation day on top of that and headed for Las Vegas on Sunday night.

I had elected to take the free CFP course offered by the infamous Gun Store on Monday. My curiosity about why the course was free was satisfied when owner Bob Irwin briefly spoke to the class about right-to-arms issues and the need for our support. The only expense was $30 for ammunition, so the savings covered most of my travel and lodging costs.

The course itself was nine hours long but was lively enough to keep us all awake. Legal matters and firearms safety were the primary areas covered, with only a little attention being given to tactics and techniques. This was followed by a live-fire qualification that took all of three minutes.

I brought all my own gear, save ammunition, but that wasn’t really necessary. Eye and ear protection were provided free of charge, and appropriate handguns were available for rent at $10 each. The application paperwork was also provided as part of the course.

Tuesday morning, with my certified application in hand, I went to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to submit my paperwork, pay the $97.50 fees, get fingerprinted for the background check, and have my permit picture taken. This process took about 45 minutes, mostly spent waiting in the DMV-style lobby for my number to be called. I was on my way back to California before noon, and my permit should arrive within 120 days.

I got Utah for Nevada and the Arizona for Nevada. I am tempted to say screw you Nevada. You allow concealed carry in a vehicle and I will take my chances taking it up to my room in the hotel. You can't carry into SHOT Show anyway.
www.tenpercentfirearms.com was open from 2005 until 2018. I now own Westside Arms.

                    Clarification.

It is NV legal to have a loaded handgun in your vehicle as long as it is not "concealed upon the person".

"Concealed upon the person" equates to concealed on you or in a portable container (purse/bag/case/pack/etc) near you.
Exemptions to this are having a valid carry permit and the firearm being unloaded & in a locked container.

Examples of what is NV legal:
                    1. Loaded handgun in vehicle's glove/utility compartment.
                    2. Loaded handgun on dashboard.
                    3. Loaded handgun on unoccupied seat, in plain sight or concealed.
                    4. Loaded handgun under the seat.
                    5. Loaded handgun open carried in a holster.

In Nevada, are you required to qualify with the weapon you will be carrying concealed?

                          Not anymore.

                          Currently...
There are two categories of firearms you can qualify and carry.
                          1. Semiautomatic firearms
                          2. Revolvers
Once you are authorized for a category, you can carry any firearm that fits into that category.
If you want to be authorized for both categories, you will need to qualify with both a revolver and a semi-auto pistol.

There has been legislation that's been proposed and working it's way through the NV legislature that will change the category system to qualify with a firearm and can carry any type of firearm. Unknown if or when this will be made into law.
