Some returning vets reamed the chamber to make it 6.5mm Roberts.

When I bought this Type 38 carbine I bought a new stock from Numrich(the old one is pretty bad)and went out to shoot. I loaded five rounds, loaded and fired, cycled the bolt and fired again, that's when I noticed the piece of brass on the ground didn't look right, it looked like this: After I...

They often neglected to mark the rifle to warn subsequent owners.

If you are going to shoot it a lot, you should learn to reload.

Factory ammo for whatever it shoots is not going to be cheap.

I reload all my stuff, you almost have to in these times unfortunately. As far as this rife goes, would only put acouple rounds down it the throw it in the back of gun safe, I need small pistol primers!!! Goodluck everyone thanks for info

With the mum intact, it's most likely a battle field pickup. MacArthur allowed the Japs to grind the mum off the rifles after the surrender. My dad got two 7.7 rifles from a huge warehouse in Sasebo Japan in November of '45. Both had the mum removed. Graf's for brass..

My dad used to have one that was rechambered in .256 Newton, a nice hot performer.

It is definitely japanese. Other than that, I don't know. I don't know too much about japanese firearms.

Type 38, probably a bringback from the war since it has an intact mum.

6.5 Japanese is one of those calibers you need to reload if you want to shoot it pretty much ever. It would be a good idea to have a gunsmith take a look at it to make sure it is still in 6.5 Japanese.
