Btw I can't figure out how to add more pics but it has what's looks to be a Japanese letter on it with a flower or sun above it ontop of where the bolt would be -
It has the flower still on it? Does sound like an Arisaka, the flower is the symbol of the Emperor. If your Grandfather served in WWII in the pacific it could be a war trophy. The Japanese troops would often destroy the stamped flower to prevent the US from capturing the Emperor's seal. You can probably get a replacement bolt for it. If it were mine I would definitely restore it, especially if it has Family connections.Comment

yeah, find a bolt and restore it, with the flower it's a sweet gun for that
Brownells has both 38 and 99 in stock no 44, just need to figure out which version you have. A complete bolt is 109+ S&H
looks like they have good number of parts for it, not much for 44's

Make sure you know if it's a type 38 or type 99 before you buy a bolt, I just got an Arisaka with an unknown bolt (very reasonably priced), and the bolt didn't fit, lol.Comment
-
It's a type 38, anyone know a average price these go for?Comment
-
It is a Japanese Type 38. It is 6.5x50mm Jap caliber. The price can go from $100 to 500 depending on its condition and matching numbers. Yours from what I can see from that one picture because it has the chrysanthemum but missing parts would be no more than $150.Comment
