why are guns at gunshops so overpriced

i have been to a few different gun stores and they all have their gun overpriced.

you look on the internet and it is way cheaper . i can understand a little mark up but when a gun that should go for 500 is going for 700 its just ridiculous.

    i have seen a big 5 type mosin (43 izzy, 91/30) selling for $200!

    a keltec su-16 for $750!

at gun shows is ever worse

russian sks for $650 and also one for $700

mossberg 500 in ga for $450

    NUTS!

is just california like this or is all over the usa

Cost of doing business in California. This topic comes up a lot, a search might provide more insight, but it comes down to bureaucratic hassles, real estate, and assorted other fees.

Also, when looking at online fees, factor in the cost of a transfer fee for an FFL (typically around $100) and the price difference isn't as huge.

Simple economics. Besides, anything on the web will be cheaper (not all the time). Brick and mortar store will always have associated cost.
Have you tried to deal with the store? Usually, prices label are MSRP. I find that a lot of times they are flexible a tad.

They have to pay people to talk with people that come in their store and ask why are the prices so much better on the internet.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

Internet sellers have no overhead, and no liability. They do not have to deal with the DOJ, the paperwork, the staff time, etc.

They put the gun in the box and send it to the FFL...that's it.

It is not the same in many states... Some are cheaper because they don't have to deal with the BS of an agency like the CA DOJ BoF...

Because people are stupid enough to pay that price and not shop around.

Current legislation has made skewed supply and demand in this state.

The phrase of the year is "private party transfer" (or consignment). I just ran into a like new S&W 686 with crimson trace grips for $359 at Turners. You just have to keep your eyes open. Even the most expensive places near have some nice shotguns for $300 sometimes.

Did you get your M16 off the internet or did your local FFL give you a better deal?
