Range master ammo check. Tapping bullet against your gun.

I was just reminded last time I went to Angeles with a group and for the second time in five minutes (not counting that as soon as we put our bags on the rear benches and opened them, another RO had started to look through) the range officer asked to check our ammunition, we then stated politely that we were good to go because the other range officer right there already checked. The RO in front of us just smirked and took a bullet, tapped it against my friend's rifle stock, then tapped it against the magnet, then said we were good to go and that he doesn't trust anyone.

I understand that there are alot of people on the range and that some people bring the wrong ammo but why tap the bullet against my friends gun? I'm sure if I did this at Turners or Riflegear on a gun that did not belong to me, I would have been asked to not do that.

Thinking about it again, I'm annoyed. At the moment at the range since I was surprised, I didn't feel good about the whole interaction.

How would you guys have felt? I don't mind the ammo check. I mind the snarky attitude and the minor violation of property.

last time I was there some moron started a fire
    with tracer ammo.

So if I was responsible for checking people and I personally
    didnt check yours.
I will. Regardless of you saying someone else did.
    Not that your a liar..

Was it ignorant/rude to tap it against your rifle yes.
Especially since he had a magnet in hand.

Not worried about scratches from use.

            I hate public ranges.
But it is what it is.

With the sudden influx of new shooters
being a RO sucks donkey balls even more so.

There are some who are professionals and then
            the more common range Nazis.

He's still an jerk for testing ammo on you piece.

I'm glad we agree. I will be sure to be prepared to respond quickly and appropriately the next time which is soon

This RO has seen us multiple times and we never bring steel ammo

Maybe he means well but doesn't like resistance

My friends are nice, too nice.

They have to check. I know it sucks but its the hard truth.

They don't want a fire since the range could be permanently shut down due to it.

It's not the checking that bothered us, we accept it, it's the tapping a bullet tip against my friends gun that's questionable

It's unfortunate that a lot of RO feel they are the "police" and then carry attitudes on top of that.

Last time I was at burro canyon the RO came buy and just stuck his magnet in my ammo can, paid a couple nice compliments on the gun I was shooting and said have a great time. Always had great experiences there.
                    Its not paranoid.....its prepared.

I'm all for safety checks, ammo, guns whatever. Sometimes RO's are simply donkeys, be it a control issue, or a crappy personality. RUDE seems to be the new polite, not just at the range. I'm in "their" house, I get that & I offer respect, plenty of them don't. I had an issue with the guy at Discount a few months ago, he made absolutely no sense asking us to pile our bags & gear at our feet, literally. He should have checked our bags for loaded weapons & NOT been a donkey. Now I take the drive to P2K. The Girls are nice, the facility's first rate & I always have a good time.
Yes I took the pic, no I didn't go swimming!

Yeah, how would you feel or react on the range to that?

Just like anywhere else I think it's bad etiquette to tap someone's car window, phone or tablet screen, tap another object on a gun at the gunstore that's not mine yet, etc.

i find a lot of ro's are social skill rejects

a piece of wood with a magnet would suffice.

i would not allow what the op said to occur

Find the RO's car and make sure he/she see's you tap bullets against his car. Just kidding (kind of) and don't do that.
