would be a good idea. i just put those little packs of silica that came with my gun supplies. Before, i went out of the country for a couple months, when i came back i spent three days cleaning all the surface rust off my guns.

Cold to warm=bad, warm to cold=good. The best thing to do is make sure the temp stays constant. That means the garage is not the best place to store guns.

I've had a dehumidifier in my safe for over 10 years. I bought it because I noticed a light rust on a few of my rifles. Haven't had a single issue since. Good investments.

Get a humidity gauge and keep it in your safe.
You can find them on eBay for under $6

What is the best way to power a GoldenRod, if my safe has no holes cut?

i keep a medium size bag of silica in most of my ammo cans. larger bags in other storage areas.

2 large bags works pretty well for a safe if you want a KISS solution.

Eva-dry Renewable EDV-300/E-333 Wireless Mini Dehumidifer

use the shop42a.com link to buy

I have two of these in a smallish safe, and have to recharge once a month. It's cheap insurance. Less than the cost of a box of ammo.

Depends upon where you live, I suppose. I'm in the San Joaquin Valley. My safe is in an uninsulated, unheated, uncooled shop, and there is no de-humidifier in the safe. Absolutely ZERO rust EVER occurs in that safe; even guns that have sat in there for 3 or 4 DECADES are rust-free.

I use an Eva Dry and it seems to do the trick.

Its not about temperature its about the ambient moisture in the air.

I have one similar to this and it works quite well. The one I have you can bake in the oven to "reset" it. I like not having to run power into my safe, and after reading the reviews on some of the dehumidifier rods they sounded so hit or miss I figured try this first.

Another happy EvaDry user. Just remember to recharge it every couple weeks and your moisture problems will be over.
