Where precisely? How far off the main rd? I ask cuz i ride up there several times a year and would love to take the guns up to that area for some open area shooting. Any good area info would be great. Closer to Loon Lake? Or further down towards hwy 50 or an area in between? Wentworth Springs area?

I pick a different spot each time taking whatever offshoot forest road I feel like that day, sometimes gates are locked so you just go on to the next turn off, most of my spots have been on the east side of Ice house road usually before the lake.

Depends on what I'm doing. Indoors for tuning/practice handguns, Jacumba for the rifles, and the low desert if everyone is going.

It'd be nice to shoot on BLM more often, but the areas are tough to get to and they change a lot.

The Range Pistol Club in Fresno...great guys there...but I do wish I knew where around here I could take my 11 year old to shoot. Anybody know legal open areas around Fresno?

I've been a desert shooter for 50+ years. My dad taught me how to shoot when I was 5 years old, and that was in Red Rock Canyon (no longer a shooting area).

For several years, I'd go shooting in Texas Canyon (now closed).

There used to be vast open spaces for shooting near Palmdale (now closed).

Mojave desert. Most of it is under BLM jurisdiction, but that's okay. Getting out there, though, is at least a 3-hour drive for me (Palm Springs area), so I've combined my shooting with camping. If you use BLM land, just be sure to verify that it's open for shooting and/or camping purposes. Quite often, it's just me and the elements....and crawly critters! Get out there before the summer hits, for it's already getting into the 80's!

Thanks!! Sounds like i need to do a trip up there when the snow melts, but this time in the car and leave the bike at home.

It wasnt a vote option, but I have a private range on my property in 29 Palms. Also I shoot on some empty land about 40 minutes from my house. (Gavalin Hills if anyone knows were that is)

the land in 29 belonged to my grandfather, now it's my fathers and we go out shooting there all the time. We have written permission, from neighbors & gov't saying we can shoot there. It's also pretty hidden, only family & closr freinds get the privelage of going back there. 5 acres, a cabin, dirt bike track and shooting range are on the land 25, 50, 80 and 350 yard ranges. It butts up to the back end of the Marine corps base, so no big deal, you can hear lots of military automatic rifle fire, as well as tank scuds blowing up. Funny thing is a danged liberal tree huggin enironmentalist from San Franweird (AKA turtle man... funny story for later) moved into the area and he's raising heck, trying to close down riding, and shooting. Everyone hates him, he puts up anti OHV and firearms propaganda, and goes around looking for trouble. He gave me and my freind some crap one day about riding.... long story short we alomost got into a fist fight with the guy(fortunatly he's a wimp). It's almost like an old fashioned fued between families, except in this case it's most of the community vs. this guy and his crony's.
