Are we comparing AR15 or AR10 to the M1A?

I have both The AR(.223) is like shooting a 10/22 no joy. M1A is a nice rifle with a little kick. When I want to shoot something with authority I shoot my M1 Garand. I don't worry too much on cost as I reload for all my guns.

Only comparable if you have no f ing clue about calibers and what they punch through . One is a main battle rifle , the other shoots a .22 .Only thing comparable is they both are semi auto mag fed . One shts where it eats .

No personal attack but if you are trying to choose between the two, you do not know very much about either rifle or firearms in general, or you dont know what your going to do with a rifle. I like to have more then less .

I own both and i would rather have 7.62 nato .

Both, if you've got the cash. If you don't, scape your pennies together and get the M1A. Scrape together a few more and get a bare lower or an 80% lower.

I had an M1A, and while it was a cool gun, I felt like it wasn't really worth the money. At $1,600 or so, it cost (at the time) twice as much as a standard AR type. For my .30 shooting needs, I went back to an M1 Garand, which does about 90% of what the M1A does at a third to half the price, and also got a Mosin for being able to shoot without it hurting my wallet every time.
I'd love another M1A in the future, but only if I really have the disposable income.
There are some obvious advantages to the M1A in CA, not needing a bullet button, but that being said, AR type bullet button is so easy to activate and live with, it's really not a big issue.

If the M1A is too expensive, you can go with an M1 from the CMP. Comparable in most ways and a lot cheaper to buy. Can use the $1,000 you'll save on ammo and getting your reloading station set up(if you're not already). The 30 cal rifles are going to cost more to shoot and load for on average. Reloading becomes more necessary if you want to shoot a 30 cal with any regularity.

The AR rifles are really nice as well. I use one for shooting highpower. Very accurate and low recoil makes them perfect for target shooting.

I own/shoot all three of these rifles. M1 is probably my favorite, but I shoot my AR more because it's cheaper.

Get both. I have a Colt AR, and a M1A Loaded. Now that I have had both, I couldn't be without either one. To aid in the cost of .308 I reload now, and it really helps with being more affordable to shot. At the end of the day either one will serve you well, as long as you do your part to maintain them.

The M1A is not superior in every way. That's a silly thing to say.

Some of the disadvantages are that it's heavier, more expensive, harder to find parts for and the ammo is more expensive and heavier.

Both are fine weapons. Which one is "better" really depends on the circumstances and environment.

For me personally, I think the M1a is an all around better rifle.

If my life depended on it, I would certainly choose the M1a.

                              Ar is easier to customize
Parts are usually easier too find
Its Got the tactical look if u like that
And is cheaper to shoot well during normal ammo prices, not right now.

                              Its 1 Calibur
It's heavier or at least feels heavier
                              Ammo more expensive
Ill get flak on this but, it's more reliable with in shtf
                              Not true.

When you compare apples to apples 308 ARs are better than M1As
