It's called "Just in Time Delivery" nothing is in stock. The production is planned and parts are made or delivered to meet the time schedule, there is no giant stockpile of guns or parts.
How do you plan for a giant panic buying frenzy, you can't, so supplies go to zero.

I am getting one tomorrow, so its all good. I was just curious. Just figured these companies would have been more prepared after 2004 and 2008. I seriously doubt any of these companies demand has reached the levels of say, Apple's when a new iPhone is released. Yet Apple can get product back to their stores and carrier stores within a few weeks. Its been a month since the panic started and places are still saying "months" before they see stock again? How can it take 2-3 months to get restocked on a product thats currently in production and that parts should be readily available for? Odd.

Same with iPhones. They arent produced in Malaysia though. The workers at one of the Foxconn plants in China make iPhones, not machines. They also have many parts from other companies like Samsung, Sharp, LG etc...same thing. There is no looming ban, thats FUD.

The buying craze started right after Sandy Hook, when everyone and their brother were supporting a ban...thats why everyone ran out and bought one...which caused the shortage. Trying to say there is no planned ban so there should be no shortage is foolish. This shows you as a new firearms buyer. This has been a common theme since 1994.

There is no way you can compare the manufacture of a firearm like the AR15 and an iPhone... While the iPhone is more complex its designed by and with the manufacturing process in mind. The tools used to quickly assemble it are designed along with the phone. The phone is designed to aid fast and mass production. Computer and electronics companies plan to sell hundreds of thousands, Firearm manufacturers plan to sell thousands.

I wonder if the companies that are making the parts are running 2 or 3 shifts, or working 7 days a week? Anybody know?

I worked at a Ford plant in the 70's, and they ran it 24-7. That was the way to get maximum value out of the plant. Didn't require millions in new expense buying more machinery or expanding the plant; just hire another shift or two. And with the CNC machining centers that everybody uses, you don't need a master machinist to run it. It's just a part loader and unloader these days. The skill is in the guy that can program the machine....

Let's also not forget that CA doesn't get rifles from the big national companies like Colt and Bushmaster b/c they were outlawed by name in CA over 20 years ago. We have to go with the smaller "clone": mfg's or the newer (smaller) lines from Colt etc.
