I don't see anything wrong with that. Burro is set up the same way on their private ranges, only difference being the berm goes all the way down as overkill. Assuming some jerk off doesn't point it in their direction, they should be fine, and if there is a jerk off at the range willing to do that a berm isn't going to stop him.

Besides, I think it's more perception than anything. If you look at the path to their range, it looks like it's a good 30+ yards away when it gets to the photo edge and then the rifle range looks like it extends much farther past the, I'm assuming, pistol portion.

I've seen worse in pictures. There was one that was on the side of a heavily traveled street where the backstop was parralel and opposite the road, with the shooters maybe 10-20 yards from the street, and the ground was heavy gravel. Wouldn't want to be near the guy who gets a piece of gravel flung his way at 50+ mph while he is just about to pull the trigger.

That berm needs to come all the way down. It would be way to easy to sweep the people in the background. Heck you could set your rifle down on the bench and it would be pointing directly at those people. Mark

Personally, I wouldn't be to comfortable having that guy behind be.

If not then yes, very scary.

You, it looks kind of scary by just looking at the picture, but then again, it's just a picture and not enough to form an opinion... I would have to see more pics or see the range with my 2 eyes...

Well if you are using that bench/table for support then yes it could be a dangerous situation. That bench/table looks like it could fall apart at anytime.

Are you aware of the path of travel of a ricochet? It's not like a pool ball, it can (and almost always does) travel along the the flat plane of travel from the ricochet point. From what I can tell in this pic it would be far to easy for someone (not saying this guy or gun) to aim low, hit a rock and that round go flying to the left. I would feel very uncomfortable shooting at this range, and probably wouldn't do it at all.

That same reasoning works at all ranges. Like I said, Even Burro is set up that way. Many outdoor ranges don't have stalls or berms on their public range. While they are not firing you stay behind the line, but that's only for one range at a time and they frequently have their seperate ranges next to or backing each other. Like I said before, they would only get hurt if a jerk off was there who was being dangerous, and if a jerk off is going to be dangerous with firearms, there is NO level or protection to make anyone comfortable.

I have been to worse. However the range I am thinking of has been improved recently and is now much safer.
