I pick up a bible. I don't want to kill anyone so I'll just pray and beg the bad guy to not kill me. Hurt me a bit is fine, just don't kill me.

I ponder that all the time, but, since my shotgun is lost somewhere in the Bermuda triangle of a garage that I have, I keep my Beretta Cougar or Px4 Storm under my pillow vault...I think it could also depend on your house and its layout...if you have plenty of blind spots or areas you cant see very well in, I think a handgun is better...if you can observe far areas of your home, then, a shotgun would be nice

If there was some type of a close encounter event, the handgun might be a better choice...there are a lot of areas of a shotgun that can be grabbed, could turn into a struggle over it...the handgun, not so much

but, what do I know, if someone is in my house, im calling 911 and waiting on my side of the bedroom door, gun in hand...hopefully my motion detectors going off will scare them away

I will obviously call the police because they are my protectors.

Seriously though, my Glock 17 came out of my safe last night. Then the local police were called to request more patrol while I was at work due to some suspicious things my wife heard.

I think it is time to buy her a pistol for herself.

Well, and teach her to shoot, maybe even try to get her a CA CCW.

For me, I have the G19 by my bed. It has night sights, which I think would be important in this particular hypothetical. Also, I have two girls under 6 yrs down the hall from me, so having an extra hand for other tasks is a must for me. Finally, and I think most importantly for me, I have extensive training and many classes under my belt with a pistol. Since I have a LTC, I take training seriously. Even though I have a shotgun and enjoy shooting it, I have zero training with it. Without training, I really don't trust it in that sort of situation. So for me, it comes down to training and how accommodating it would be when my girls are in the picture.

Which one would you grab for defense?
I can only speak for myself, I have had defensive pistol, shotgun, and rifle courses.

My choices are a couple pistols, a Bennelli M1S90 with an upgraded surefire, and a RAW AR 15.

When our home alarm went off a couple years ago, indicating someone in our garage, I handed my wife the shotgun and took a Glock with night sights.

I foolishly went to clear the garage, but I was pretty sure I had left a side door open, and it was windy, and I didn't want the cops dispatched.

I got halfway down the stairs and the Glock seemed puny. I went back up and got the shotgun. Taking a handgun to what might be a gunfight is stupid to me.

Either choice will leave you with irreparable hearing damage.

I would use the shotgun. It has show of force.

Just make sure your wife is covering your kids ears, and the kid is covering her ears, just in case the kid sucks at ear muffs (if they are close to you).

Neither, just rubber gloves a towel and comet. Because after my mini-schnauzer is done with the intruder I'll just have clean up to do.
Im a warmonger baby, I got blood in my eyes and I'm looking at you.
