    Coming out the closet...

I'm going to come out of the closet right now...
I don't like ARs. They bore me. They are uninteresting. I like steel, wood, bolt actions. Something with soul. I had to get that off my chest. Come on people, I can't be the only one!

Before anyone asks, yes I realize they are good weapons. Yes, I have shot a few ARs. No, I still don't like them.

Well, it's certainly your choice. I like them, but I like just about any type of gun....

ARs? Is that short for Asian Rubdowns? Cus that would probably mean its time for you to come out the closet.

Yeah - AKs interest me more....

...but since the goobermint doesn't like either one - it makes them both look more inviting.

Bless you for you have seen the light - enter into the higher realms of enlightenment and understand the "one shot one hit" theory of life.
I'm only smiling at you while you talk to me because it's hilarious that you really think I give a crap about you.

As I've gotten older I thought I was gaining patience, then I realized I simply don't give a crap.

I've never been in the closet! I am a fan of bolt action myself when it comes to long guns (or a good O/U trap gun). I've had my time to play with M16s and it's fun to full auto at the range but that's about it. Bolt actions remind me of WWII snipers with iron sights doing the near impossible (like Simo Hayha), feats of valour and bravery. ARs simply remind me of movies like Predator and Rambo...

I like my wood and metal guns... Lord knows I REALLy do!!! Just look at my Garand and M1 Carbine collection... But... I use to be indifferent to the apperance of the AR types... but now since I got bitten by the BRD (Black Rifle Disease) I have 8 of the buggers (3 set up for competition and 1 REALLY nice Varmint rig and the others as 'blaster' rifles) along with 3 stripped spares

I am an old blue steel and walnut guy slowly working toward stainless steel and and laminate stocks but my ideal gun is still a Searcy Deluxe double rifle with high gloss rust bluing and exhibition grade Circassian walnut.

Saying that, I have three OLL AR type rifles because the State of California doesn't want me to have them.

If there were no restrictions on these type of rifles I might have bought one of them after I had purchased my double rifle but since they are being "A" hats about it, I built three of them.

I really don'y like them much either. I jumped on the OLL bandwagon a few years ago and bought lots O stuff for them along with 2 diff. caliber uppers. I've since sold about 95% of my ar stuff. To me they just aren't that exciting anymore. I kept my mini-14 which does it's intended job of plinking.

this is a dumb thread and a dumb topic. i shall explain why.

we need to take the example of motorcycle riders as of late, that it doesnt matter what you ride, your a biker. 30 years ago i heard that people on hondas got their bikes smashed up for going to sturgis. not so anymore. they came together and knocked off the snobby crap.

we need to do the same. hunters, glock people, ar people, rimfire nuts, all of us. we are all 2a supporters. we cant let the dumb "this vs that" crap to seperate us.

Not that it matters, but I just realized that I used to have about a 50/50 share, but after recently selling off some guns, about 90% of my guns have either killed someone or were assembled from parts of a gun that killed someone. Some people hate that idea. Others don't.

Some like the AR. Some like the AK. Morons dislike both (just kidding).

I think what it comes down to has very little to do with practicality, function, looks, power, etc. It's all in your mindset. If you dislike a gun you probably hate shooting it and probably loathe owning it. We've all been there; you buy a gun you think is going to be the bee's knees and you put a box through it and can't wait to sell it. It happened with my Para Nitehawg. I thought it would be the perfect carry gun, especially since I love the 1911. Well Para sure helped me find out that I hate compacts. It doesn't matter how nice the gun, I ended up selling it in near new shape for about half it's worth and even less than half of what I paid.

If you're a WWII nut (again, like myself) you'd probably rather hold an M1 than a G3. You may like to hunker down on the floor and pretend to pick off Nazi's at the range. More power to you. But what's the difference between someone laying prone with a 1903 pretending to be a sniper picking off Germans, versus someone laying prone with an AR pretending to be a sniper picking off terrorists, versus someone laying prone with a rimfire pretending to be a sniper picking off ground squirrels?

The gun itself is less vital to the awe of the moment than the actual imagination and the time and care taken to live out a dream, fantasy, past life, etc.

I Love guns. Period. My collection is VERY important to me. While I may only rarely shoot them; each one has it's attributes that I like and bring up a bit of enjoyment to myself. That said, I've yet to find a gun that I didn't like or was so horrible that I had a fascination with it. Not one yet and I doubt I will. I used to HATE Glocks, but now that I've owned one I know it's appeals. All guns, I am sure, will come in time as well to those who hate.

So if you hate ARs and love your Mausers; by all means marksman of the patient and steady enjoy your trophy. There's nothing wrong with you. Just don't be closed to something you've never tried - you might just be missing something you never knew you really wanted.

Yeah...you're taking this a bit too seriously. I wasn't saying I don't support people who want to own ARs. I think you should be able to own and shoot and carry whatever puts a smile on your face. I just don't want one.
