I like it. That is about the age my dad got me into shooting. Safety first!

half of you here are weak and lame that will basically wind up being happy with .22 single shot pistols or single barrel shotguns..

Airsoft is a toy. Skip that.

Get a single shot .22. Or a nice pellet rifle if you have nowhere else to shoot but your garage.
It cannot be inherited, nor can it ever be purchased.
You and no one alive can buy it for any price. It is impossible to rent and cannot be lent.
You alone and our own have earned it with...Your sweat, blood and lives. You own it forever.

        The title is....."United States Marine".

I vote nice pellet rifle or a Marlin lever .22...i had a really nice pellet rifle when i was younger. Cant recall the make, but it was solid metal and wood. It looked like an sks and packed a punch for a pellet gun..i loved it and all my bb gun owning buddies were jealous.

The Rascal is the industry's safest micro rimfire. Features adjustable peep sights, synthetic stock, and easy unloading. Available in many colors and left hand.

This is what my sons started shooting.

When I was 8, back in 1961, my dad got me my first rifle, an 8mm Mannlicher in the original 8x50r that I still have.

I learned respect for the rifle due to the recoil. Now, at a later stage in my life, I have a few more rifles in my safe, but I've not lost the respect for the rifle.

If 8mm might seem too much, go for a lever action in .357. Respect will be learned, but with fewer bruises.

22RF rifle. Get a youth size one. Do NOT handycap a young/small person with a full size/heavy rifle. You want it to be fun for them. My daughter had a Chimpmonk 22RF when she was 4.5 years old. Then I got a 2nd stock for my 10/22 Ruger and had it cut down for her. Then I got her own Marlin model 60. I got her a 257Roberts and a 2nd stock which I cut down when she was little. I handloaded light loads. She liked it so much she wore the barrel out. I got a new Douglas air gage barrel on it this year and she will use it in Africa next year when we go.
Started her out on a Browning Buckmark 22RF pistol then a Ruger 9mm.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

I just bought my grandson ,7 yrs old, a Savage mark II Y a youth size semi auto.
My plan was to get him a single shot 22 but he has a 9 yr old friend with a marlin semi auto so the single shot wasn't going to fly. the 9 yr old is a girl and he didn't want to be outgunned by a girl.
the grandson lives in the city so the savage lives in my safe and he can practice when he comes here, with adult supervision.

My son is 9 years old and has several firearms that he's had for at least a few years now.
His go to guns are his Ruger Target Tactical 22 rifle and his new Ruger SR22 pistol.
I'll be adding a single shot 20 gauge shotgun for his 10th birthday coming up in Feb.

Agree with the single shot. My kids started with a Remington 514 youth model. Problem is I cant keep em away from the 10/22 now and my son is itching to shoot the AR. Double ears for the little ones and safety safety safety!

Either a bb gun or a single shot .22

I started with an old crossman pump bb gun(one of the "assault weapon" models with the 100 round internal magazine), shot it until it finally fell apart

My oldest started shooting at 10, but his brother got to start at 5. The older 1 just wasn't ready before he turned 10. Both started with a 10/22.

I say skip the BB gun and get a 22
