So when will this Sh*t calm down?

So I have a question for all the people who were around during the first AWB, I am guessing that we are seeing the same reactions from people now as you did then. Panic buying of firearms and ammo.

So how long did all that panic buying last? It took more than one Walmart for me to find 12 guage bird shot yesterday.

Also, with all this talk of new regulations; what are the opinions of firearms and ammo manufacturers? Would they come to our sides and join those opposing these new regulations?

In '94, EBRs had nowhere near the popularity that they now enjoy.
So there really wasn't all that much panic buying. Certainly not anything like what is happening today.

As to manufacturers standing up, just like last time some will, some won't. We'll have to see who is who.

It is a fraudulent term used, often by ignorant persons but no less often by intellectual fakers, to describe an infamous mixture of socialism, miscegenation, graft, confiscation of property and denial of personal rights to individuals whose virtuous principles make them offensive." - Westbrook Pegler

Not as many gun people knew about the AWB 1.0 before it passed. That was before most people were on the internet. To know about it you would have had to read something like Shotgun News. The reaction to the passage of it got a lot of gun owners into the 2A fight.

A lot of the panic buying was done after the HW Bush 1989 import ban. In CA we already had Robert Roos, so we were already banned from many of the guns covered by the AWB 1.0 before it happened.

I don't remember a big shortage of guns, just a big bump in prices for some. The big panic if you what to call it that was trying to find high cap mags that were not stupid money. After the ban passed the manufactures just removed stuff like flash hiders & bayonet lugs. Pre ban guns were worth more & post ban guns kept being made. The big deal then was the mags.

Not much a manufacturer can do other then make as much before the ban goes into effect. Ram-Line (10/22 high cap mags & folding stocks) went out of business because of the ban.

A huge blow at that time was when Clinton banned (through a trade agreement) most Chinese ammo and guns like the MAK-90s in 1994. Chinese ammo was as low as $0.03 a round then for steel core 7.62x39mm on SKS strippers in spam cans if you bought 5 cases at a time. Prices for gun stuff was at it's cheapest in the early 1990s before the AWB idea got serious.

I just want to be able to buy .223/5.56 ammo again - and not at a $.70-$1 a round...

I was around for the AWBan. I already had my AKS and plenty of mags by then and I didn't have to pay the very high prices that were commanded for "preban" rifles or mags. Things calmed down in 2004 after this unConstitutional POS expired. Rifles once again were produced as they were designed to be and normal capacity mags were offered at fair prices. Ammo was plentiful and cheap. I paid anywhere from 7cents to 10 cents/round for Wolf 7.62X39. 5.56 was 15-20 cents/round. I picked up a few other "Assault Rifles" and about 100 mags. This round, who knows? Your Kali sweetheart, DiFi, hasn't even introduced her bill and we all can see the results: panic buying and severe shortages of just about everything. And what little is available is offered at astronomical prices. A friend went to an excellent, fully-stocked gun shop on the 26th and found one lonely bare-bones Colt AR for $1700. Before Obongo was elected the same rifle was $900. He bought it. Now they are advertized for $2300 and up. When will it end? Not very soon, perhaps never if Feinstein's bill passees.

Unfortunately I don't think the panic buying will end. The proposed bill will be introduced on January 3rd. From there give it a few months to go through Congress and get rehashed before it passes. Then it will be several more months before it goes into effect. It's in effect date will of course be available when it passes. Thus the panic buying will continue right up until this effective date.

The only way I see a decline in the panic buying is if the bill is tabled or something else major happens to stop its forward progress. Even then, people will continue to buy knowing that it's only a matter of time.

Magazine is the worst I've seen..
FNH AR mags at the end were $35
                          Glock Mags $80
                          Beretta mags $60
                          Sig Mag $50
but this time around, I think a law will pass for all mags to be 10 rds or less permanently for the nation.. so I think alot of the Pmag prices and such though high.. there is a good excuse and mags will going even higher as most likely there will not be a thing as a rebuild kit as an option...

Ammo will go back down but with this registering crap can cause prices to go higher up until the effective date

Given that 1/1/14 is only a year away, I don't think this panic is going to wind down. At least, not in California and not for rifles. Ammo usually takes 18 months to drop, but it rarely goes back to pre-panic prices. This is why "when it's cheap, stack it deep." It's never cheaper than right now, on a long enough timescale.
