    CalGunners My .02

Just saw AR uppers and BCGs' sell for 2X what they should on GunBroker.

On-Line ammo sales are out of stock.

Local gun suppliers have empty shelves.

    CalGuns marketplace selling over-priced mags.

This is not a result of Liberals doing anything out of their norm.

Nothing like shooting yourselves in the foot.

A lot of people seem to be buying to hoard; mags, ammo, guns, etc. I just want to shoot! I'd like to purchase extra mags to actually use, not to profit from or hoard, but I can't do that because people are trying to sell mags for $100 a piece or trade for HK45. Come on dude, really!? Ammo doesn't seem to be too bad at the moment but who knows how long that'll last...

There is no such thing as a "community" with gun people. 2008 and now proves that very well. Gun people are some of the worst people I have ever met. I think these gougers are scum who can take a sad event to spur idiots to buy (overpay) for magazines guns etc. I hope the karma train comes hard and fast for all the gougers

The karma train? LOL! Sounds like it has already come for those posting in this thread.

For people with such strong support for one constitutional right (RKBA), there sure seems to be a lot of people here on Calguns who do not believe in economic freedom. Given that some people want to charge a price you consider too high--and that others are willing to pay it--what do you propose? Government price controls? Boycott? Publishing names publicly?

But think about your feelings about Government gun controls, social ostracism toward gun owners, and publishing the names and addresses of licensed gun owners (as recently in New York).

                  Let's be pro-freedom.

If someone's price seems high, nobody has to buy it. And if offers are too low, nobody has to sell it. Likely some prices will be too high for most people--but someone will pay it, in which case the higher price served to help reserve the item for those who most value it. You might sympathize with people facing economic hardship who can't afford a firearm, but why not sympathize with people facing economic hardship who can't afford rent unless they can get a good price for their firearm? Especially when we're probably just projecting our own idea of economic well-being, since we're generally hiding behind internet usernames?

Maybe we should try the Soviet/Jimmy Carter model of fixed prices with long lines. That way we could pay "fair" prices instead of evil free market prices.

I bought extra of everything, not to make a profit. I figured I could trade for what I need with other firearms enthusiests. There's rarely hard assets like gun related stuff that don't have the volatility price swings like Gold, Silver, stock investments. They always go up

Agreed. I feel we should not allow fellow members to gouge here. If they want to make a buck sell it else where.. Yeah I feel you. You wanna make a buck that fine but lets not get carried away.. We should be helping each other out not screwing the guy next to me.. I recenlty was banned from the market place for making fun of the current market.. Why are we allowing this to happend.... I am a member aslo at the m14 forum and they all agreed that they wouldn't allow price gouging.. We should do the same

I am not a fan of communal price-setting.

If there are people out there willing to pay $1000 for something you believe is worth only $700, then forcing them to sell at $700 is "screwing the guy next to you" by making him take less than someone is willing to pay. Sure, it's good for the guy who reads a WTS post just after it's posted but will only pay $700, but it also screws the guy willing to pay $1,000 who doesn't get to read the post until 10 minutes later.

It seems you're arguing that a "fair" economy is one in which the community can pressure people to buy and sell at certain prices. I maintain any voluntary transaction is more fair.

The "community" many of us live in seems to think it is "fair" for us not to have AR-15's with standard capacity magazines as long as we're allowed to have them with fixed 10-round magazines. Many of us see this as an infringement on our freedom, on our constitutional rights. Letting the community determine fair prices for buying and selling is a parallel infringement on our freedom.

And judging community members for their motives in wanting firearms or ammo ("hoarding," "just to shoot") is no different from our wider community judging us for our motives in wanting "assault weapons" and "high power ammunition" ("hunting," "sporting," "plinking," "mass murder").

I believe the USA is a free country. We have the constitutional right to keep and bear arms, whether to hunt, shoot targets, defend ourselves, or give pause to a tyrant. We also have the freedom to buy and sell based on our own ideas of value. (Of course, we don't have the right to force people to buy what we're selling or sell what we want at the price want, or to defraud one another, or to murder.)

Now all we need is a price control organization. Make people submit their property for vetting and get the opinion of at least 10 different calgunners on what the fair price should be. During the last buying frenzy, Walmart kept their prices pretty much the same and stable which led to mostly empty shelves most of the time.
