I also keep mine for same reasons, resale and shipping....
All mine are in a closet out of sight, but once I need the closet space they will go in a bigger plain brown box marked xmas stuff....lol and put them in the garage..

If you have the space, it is a good idea. Myself, if I kept every box for every firearm, especially the long guns, I'd be devorced by now. I do keep the blow molded pistol boxes and a few of the long gun boxes just for shipping purposes. Keeping them makes sense until you get an 03 ffl and then there are just too, too many long brown boxes.

Depends. Factory accurized Colt 1911 or high-end Beretta O/U? Yes. Mossberg 500? No point. The box wouldn't add anything to resale value.

How does a cardboard box had resale value? If I bought a used gun that came with the box the first thing I would do when I get home is throw it away. Cases and such I keep but if it came in a cardboard box it's gone.

Used to be that nobody saved the box; you bought a gun, the box didn't do anything, you tossed the box. However, once "Blue Book" started giving a percentage pump for having the original box, everyone sought the original box; and began saving them. I am guilty of that too.

Most boxes contain the manufacturer's trademark or other identifying insignia, even going back 100 years. So it's not really just a cardboard box, it's history married to the gun. I have seen original boxes for Registered Magnums from the 1935 on up, sell from $750 (lowest I saw0 on up to over $1,500 depending on condition.

If I found one that matched mine, I might be tempted to pay that much.

I use to keep all of them then soon learned most people who bought guns did not care one way or the other. So I tossed them all except for a few to ship firearms for sale or repair.

I don't keep the boxes. I have no plans on selling. If somehow I do sell it, I hope to sell to someone who will use the gun rather than make it a safe queen, i.e. they won't care about the box either.

I keep it all but some of the bubble wrap and plastic in the box. I like everything as it came from the factory.

I keep the plastic ones, get rid of the cardboard. But I keep all the manuals, warranty papers, etc.

I'm also a watch collector, so I've learned to be a "box & papers" guy. A Rolex box will cost you $ 300-400.
