I agree, 6 in one hand, 1/2 dozen in the other.. unless you plan on taking the next plane to Afganistan, any "reputable" AR would be fine. I have a Del-Ton 316 with the heavy barrel , I have put about 2000 rounds through it and absolutely flawless,,$800 out the door...

When Remington closed the Bushmaster Plant, the Owners had to sign an agreement not to open a rifle shop for a few years in direct competition to the new Freedom Groups Bushmaster line of AR15s.All the colts I've handled have been very disappointing in quality. Usually have upper/lower play, machining marks on milled parts, and you're average AR mil-spec trigger which is sub par to say the least. My suggestion is to steer clear of colt.
I haven't heard of windham. I'm curious how good they are.
After that time period ended, the old owners, managers and Armorers got together and opened Windham. They (Windham) are what Bushmaster was before it was commercialized...back to when people were selling Colts to buy Bushmasters. Old Bushmasters were made in Windham. Ah yes havent had one of this in a while. Let the bickering start. I will go with Bravo company. My first AR was A bravo. I only use Noveske and Bravo. My ar pistol has a Spike lower and went with a Vltor upper, noveske barrel with flaming pig.
Picture of my old AR. Noveske upper bravo lower.Last edited by lakersandguns; 12-15-2012, 6:14 AM.Comment

I've built on Stag, Spikes, Mega, and DSA. All were of equal quality. The fit and finish on the Stags were the best, then Spikes.LASD Retired

I think Windham might be another 'sleeper'.When Remington closed the Bushmaster Plant, the Owners had to sign an agreement not to open a rifle shop for a few years in direct competition to the new Freedom Groups Bushmaster line of AR15s.

Very interested to check out some of their offerings. I hear good things.Comment

Build yourself a Stripped Lower. Colt, LMT, Daniel Defense, Noveske & Larue are my favorites. ar15.com has TONS of info, I started there a few years ago. You dont see as many failures, or negative feedback on certain brands. There`s good reason for this.
Stay away from Polymer/Plastic Lowers. Frontier Arms & Plum Crazy are 2 examples.Yes I took the pic, no I didn't go swimming!Comment

Check out Windham Weaponry for sure.
They have a couple of California compliant rifles.
Just bought one from Sac Black Rifle. Took less than a month to get here, cost about a thousand bucks.
It is sooo sweet.
Same crew and owner who were making Bushmaster before being bought out by Remington. After a couple of years they said "Let's get the band back together guys!" Nothing they would rather be doing but making ARs.
They will become harder to get as they become more well known and popular.Better Way to Search CalGuns - https://www.google.com/cse/home?cx=0...78:pzxbzjzh1zk

The options out there are pretty crazy as there's so much and there's not many differences. I went with a Daniel Defense M4V3 as my first AR. I fell for their marketing videos that they have on YouTube. I've never even shot an AR previously.
I took it out to the range a few days ago and put 100 rounds through it. The man at the range was nice enough to help me sight the gun and then he let me at it...
After getting used to the gun and learning to be a little more patient and also getting tips from stance etc, my last few rounds looked like this. These pics will depict 10 rounds, though there may only be 8 or 9 (few bad shots
)

It's a nice gun

I was going to get the S&W M&P15 Sport first (actually that's what I ordered). I read many great things about it and watched a couple youtube videos from happy owners and reviewers. I went with Daniel Defense because I wanted an AR that I didn't have to "upgrade". I just need an optic now and I'm leaving it the way it is...ok maybe a Magpul Bad Lever and a new grip...then that's it! Good luck with your decision...Comment

I have a AR 15 that I am selling. It's a very nice full 16 Noveske upper and a N4 Noveske lower. I have some trigger work that was done to it as and its light as a feather. I have a lot of extra attachments that come with gun gun as well. There is a surefire 900, and a couple other different bi-pods. I am throwing in high grade rounds, about 1k of them. A gun case and lots more. if you still looking or anyone else PM me. Thanks.Comment
