i am on the market to buy a AR 15, there are so many brands. Can any one direct me in the right direction as to what brand to buy. I tend to think Colt will be the best one since it was original, etc. Am i right?

You will see pissing contests about brands, but in reality any mil spec or above with chrome lined barrel and chamber will be fine. I've been using Bushmaster for so long professionally and personally that I am brand loyal to them. (Even after Remington bought it). Just read reviews on different ones and go for the one you want.

I went with LMT, on the upper anyway. Something of a sleeper in my opinion.

I guess not really, but they make one product for every end user, government and civilians including police. California friendly too.

Just one mil-spec product. Nothing special or crazy.

Ask in the Rifle forum, you'll get three pages of replies and you'll be even more confused.

There seem to a handful of features in common that you want to look for.

Lots of choices out there, But yes. a new Colt would be a wise choice.

noveske. contact user tier one arms. for the most part they are all "similar" quality wise. but some are better and the price reflects that. lwrc, larue, noveske.

With as many AR brands, options, accessories, configurations, etc, etc as there are, without an entire essay or even a whole book explaining and comparing them, it would be impossible to answer your question.
Without any specific info on what you are looking for, by default, I'd say just buy a Colt.
You can't go wrong with a Colt M4 Carbine.

You might also look into building your own. At least you can configure it to your liking.

My first AR style rifle was a Colt CAR 15 and it was a POS, but that was 15 years ago. Sold it and bought a few Bushmasters instead before the last ban. Colt had some quality control issues for a little while, but I can't say anything for the newer production ones.

I have Bushmasters, a LMT, and a Armalite AR10. I also have multiple uppers with different configurations from Rock River Arms. Never had any issue with them. Depending on what you want to spend, but from what I heard the S&W's are decent for entry level. Of course you could spend several hundred to a few grand on a complete setup.

If it is going to spend most of its time sitting in the safe, there is no reason not to go with a less expensive Del-Ton or M&P Sport.

Whats your cash flow? You can buy an AR15 from $800 to $2500 out the door. You can assemble one from used parts for under $500.

Turners has the Colt on sale for just over 1k. I'd pick that up as a first AR.

Windham Weaponry is also a quality build. Their attention to detail is second to none. Also can be had for around $900 for a basic build.

All the colts I've handled have been very disappointing in quality. Usually have upper/lower play, machining marks on milled parts, and you're average AR mil-spec trigger which is sub par to say the least. My suggestion is to steer clear of colt.

I haven't heard of windham. I'm curious how good they are.
