"Absolute power, corrupts absolutely", and it only works in republics and democracies when stupid people are the majority. As in California's case.

It seems that the typical anti-gun crowd thinks semi-auto means a big scary tec-9, I mean what else would all gun owners carry? It's got a pistol grip, high capacity clips, and a shoulder thingy that goes up! We must be satanic to support the amendment next to free speech

Do politicians really think that all the gangsters will stop and turn away if there's a sign that says "Gun free zone"???
I don't know. That is right. Yes they do.
          Anything else?
I need to think of a clever thing here.

First principle: elected legislators have as their highest priority "getting re-elected".

Second principle: to get re-elected, legislators must show they have 'done something' to deserve re-election.

Third principle: From the first and second principles, we know we should not assume California gun laws have anything to do with guns.

The CA state constitution does not have a "right to bear arms" provision.

There was debate on if the Second Amendment was an individual right or a state right.

SCOTUS (Heller) finally ruled the Second Amendment was an individual right in 2007.

There was debate on if the Second Amendment applied only to the Federal government or applied to both the state & the Feds.

SCOTUS (McDonald) then ruled that the Second Amendment applied to local/state goverments and not just the Feds in 2010.

So, CA legally did not get a "right to bear arms" until 2010.

This was one of the reasons why, prior to 2007, the majority of CA's gun control laws were deemed to be "constitutional" by the Court system.

It's going to take several years to correct all the previous Court decisions and undo CA's gun control laws.
