I think if you're one of the first 2 types of gun owners then buy whatever makes you happy, but if you're the SHTF type, IMO it's unrealistic to buy thousands of rounds of 'ammo and think it's going to do you any good. Chances are if a disaster strikes you will be evacuated and you're not going to be able to take your thousands of rounds with you; you need to be light and mobile and carry not much more than a rifle bag and maybe a backpack. Personally, I think anything more than 500 rounds, or what you can easily carry off in a panicked emergency is excessive, and I'll bet more than anything that the police and/or looters/rioters will take what you've got...

I think .22LR is WAY under rated. You can carry a ton of it if you need to be mobile. Either pistol or rife can get the job done (take good aim, shoot and no recoil vs.larger and louder calibers with a lot more recoil). To each his/her own but I think the .22 has value.

10k 22lr. Everything else is components. Might only have 500 rounds of 44 mag bu I have enough powder/primers/bullets for another 1500 rounds.

Several things come to mind as to why it might be a good idea to "get while the getting is good".

        1) Online purchase restrictions -- Tried it in CA, they may try again either at the State or Federal level.

        2) Taxation -- Per unit added taxes. -- Don't think they have given up on this yet.

The answer is always 5 more rounds than you possess.

          So just keep buying.

you might have enough ammo when the concrete slab under the crates cracks from the load on top of it.

For those talking about pistol rounds, are you guys talking about home defense HPs or FMJ/TMJ range rounds?

I have a heck of a lot more cheaper, reloaded FMJ's then the more expensive home defense HPs.

There is no such thing. Even when you think it's enough, it is never enough.

                        stash-1k per rifle , half zmax :-) , maybe 500 practice
pistol-1k per pistol, maybe 1k or 2k practice
only a few hundred self defense rounds, 100/gun

Components-too much powder, not enough bullets, could use a few primers, only 12k

Enough ammo is when you have body sized paths between "habitable" rooms of your house walled by ammo boxes.

....and a second house filled to the front door

                            Reload.

                            Buy components.

As I told the last guy that asked about 6 weeks ago, if you have to ask then you don't have enough.

Why have a bunch? Because it goes up in price every year. Eventually it will get it's own tax (pure assumption on my part). Eventually you will need ID to buy it. Maybe you never want to have to stop at a store to buy ammo on the way to the range.

If there is an EMP strike with a zombie outbreak while the gov prevents any future ammo purchase due to the UN treaty then you would be covered.
