Another Reason to Consider Carrying at Home

Anybody who thinks I'm dumb for carrying at home, here's another case for ya. The robbery takes place in south San Jose. I don't know of any bad neighborhoods in that area. A shotgun hidden in the next room probably wouldn't have helped you out here...

8 people tied up in San Jose home invasion robbery

Article Created: 02/21/2008 0814 AM PST

Police found four children and four adults tied with duct tape up in their South San Jose home, victims of a home invasion robbery earlier this morning, officer Jermaine Thomas said.
One man was beaten during the robbery, but no one was seriously injured in the attack, he said.

Thomas said officers believe that five men entered the home at around 2:20 a.m., tied up the family and stole some of their belongs. The house is on the 400 block of Ariel Drive, near Snell Avenue and Santa Teresa Boulevard.

The robbers barged into the home with their faces covered, shot into the ceiling of a hallway, restrained the family with duct tape and dragged them into a bedroom.

The investigation is ongoing and it is unclear what the men took from the home and how police were alerted to the robbery.

No suspects are in custody at this point.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call San Jose Police Department's robbery unit at (408) 277-4166.

I've been called paranoid and made fun of for carrying at home. I'd rather be made fun of than victimized or dead.

I carry, but not at 2:20 a.m.. I doubt any of you sleep with a gun on your hip.

Man I don't carry at home. That is just too much hassle. There's a gun on the 1st floor and the second floor and I can get to them in 5 seconds.

If I was awakened from a sleep, then there wouldn't be much I could do, but if they made any noise coming/breaking into the house.... then they would be met with a 12ga (Rem 870 named "Katrina") that is kept loaded and ready right next to the bed... and there won't be an abundance of conversation between me and who ever is in my house uninvented.

If I happened to be awake at 2am and they rushed the door, I might be in a bad situation then... depending on exactly where I was in the house.

But I really don't want to 'carry' in the house. I'm not that paranoid YET... and if it gets to the point that I need to be that paranoid/precautionary then it's time to move someplace far, far away.
If you know how many guns you have... you don't have enough guns.

People need to remember that the same guys who wrote the 1st Amendment, also wrote the 2nd Amendment... and for the same exact reasons.

I remember some pretty bad neighborhoods in South San Jose - bad stuff happens everywhere.
Home invasion tends to happen where the money is.

What if you're taking a dump when the door gets bashed in? Or is that where you store your guns?

My plan has been to sling soggy poo from the bowl as a distraction. I practice this off a chair with plastic poo at the range. I call it "The Jenkem Drill".

The secret is to have a sign in desk with warning signs at the entrance, then lock your door and quietly crouch next to it while you wait for the police or so I found out from a former school teacher turned New Hampshire representative. As she said, how could she live with herself without sharing this valuable information, should anything ever happen in the future

If you store your guns "there", you gotta make sure your gun is completely dehorned.

I actually knew a guy who had a gun tape to the far side of the toilet tank. Even his kids room had a gun stash in there. Of course this was way back before gun locks were required when you had kids in the house.

I have a gun in every room of the house. Including the bathroom, easily reachable from the "throne"
