Tannerite Highly Recommended

We spent the afternoon shooting in the rain today, and set out some 4lb tannerite targets....

Anybody who has not had a chance to play with stuff should do so, great fun. Next time I will take some video.

They show 1/2 lb charges, which was not big enough for us - 4lbs was about right

+1 on the be careful. It was on CA DOJ's disguised weapons pdf as something LEO's should be on the lookout for.

Nobody yet has shown me how Tannerite is legal in CA and avoids 12301PC et seq destructive device laws.

Nobody has shown any paperwork showing a CA exemption.

While 'weak' explosive it does go 'boom' and results in gas expansion etc. so it's an explosive until otherwise noted. (I am unsure if it's also - or not - an explosive in terms of Sec 12000 of Health & Safety Code, will have to look that up, but the way 12301... is written that's likely moot.)

There is a chance that Tannerite not in a bottle/sealed container may be legal. Putting it in a 2L Coke jug and putting the cap on appears not to be.

But even more importantly, nobody has shown me how separated Tannerite precursor components avoids 'constructive possession' clause codified in 12313PC. That's the real kicker.

There may be a way it could be exempt as pyrotechnic display, but for right now there's zero support for that.

One Calgunner said he had some data from Tannerite supporting its CA legality, but that's from an Oregon company with Oregon lawyers not familiar with CA laws and I haven't heard anything from him since - and I really doubt he has anything to come close to refuting my concerns above. [Hell, I'm trying to get national firearms companies to not use internal counsel for CA gun laws but instead consult with the experts at TMLLP, so why would I believe the representations of a small co in Oregon backwoods?]

Someone might prove Tannerite is marginally non-legal after $10+K or more in expenses; there is a clause in 12307PC that allows 'civil compromise' -it's worded very similarly to that of AB2728 civil compromise for unreg'd AW charges.

I would heed Bills advice. One of my "gunnut" buddies was out shooting a blackpowder cannon, which was completely legal and put some of the powder in a small screw-lid can, poked a hole in the side and stuffed cannon fuse and lit it off and was busted for it. Even though everything was legal to possess it was the way in which it was used that was illegal. Be careful.

Well, with all the talk about the DOJ and other acronym agency's perusing this forums, it would be nice if they could man up and talk to us about these kind of things like civil human beings instead of like a gestapo that watches what you say and then raids your home.

so now it will be in the public eye, and will eventually be banned, IMO..

Ive always went by the understanding that its classifed as "religious fireworks", but then again, thats from the company itself. Of course I wouldnt mix it together until ready to play, by itself non-mixed, its components arent illegal. And of course, I only play with it in the Free State Of Nevada, I wouldnt dream of even having it in PRK. . . . . . .
