Anything from JP is generally pretty awesome.

    That’s another really nice option.

This is a common misconception with fluted barrels. The fluting does NOT make the barrel any stiffer. It allows it to retain a higher level of rigidity than a non fluted barrel of the same weight. As an example, if instead of fluting a barrel, you decided to reprofile it to remove the same amount of material, the fluted barrel would be stiffer than the thinner, reprofiled barrel. In nearly all cases, a more rigid barrel will typically be more accurate than a less rigid barrel. The added cooling from increased surface area is also debatable. Air is a rather poor heat exchanger when acting upon dense material like steel or stainless steel. The fluting likely does speed up cooling to a certain degree, but I think the reduced mass has a greater influence on cooling than the added surface area.

Good post. I get really tired of people saying " a fluted barrel is stiffer" without understanding what is really going on.
ETA: the lighter barrel will always heat up faster and cool faster than a heavier barrel. A fluted barrel of equivalent weight will shed heat a little faster. Just a little added info....

There are some people that it's just not worth engaging.

It's a muzzle BRAKE, not a muzzle break. Or is your muzzle tired?

The stuff is expensive but worth it. I just purchased the upper with lmos bcg and appropriate buffer. The lower is a standard mil spec parts lower with a bill Springfield trigger job. I wanted to keep the standard trigger for reliabilty purposes, it still has a trigger pull around 4-5 pounds and will ignite all ammo. So I have roughly a $1,200 upper on a $300 lower, at least when i purchased everything 4 years ago. You usually don't need a fancy stock so you can save some money there.
I got lucky and sold a POS upper for $900 during the price craze in late 08. JP didn't raise there prices so it was an easy decision to spend only a few hundred more on a much nicer upper. Though I did have to wait a few months.

This I know, just did not want to get into it, your statement is well put for others to understand thanks.

Ok so I ordered the Barrel with the satin matte finish, and after spending some time talking to a tech went with no fluting. I also got a gas block and the tube and pin. When I asked how much it would be to install the gas system they said no charge and that they would dimple the barrel. Awesome company I will do business with they again in the future. Thank you guys for all the help in picking the barrel.
