Beretta 92FS Night Sights Gunsmith Question

    Hey Folks,

I've got a Beretta 92FS that I want to add night sights to. I believe the front sight is staked on so I will need to have someone remove it and stake on a front night sight.

Do you guys know any gunsmiths in Southern California (Near Los Angeles County or Orange County) that can do that for me? What's the cost? I wanted to get night sights too so if you know an online place that has a great price on night sights I would like to get that information too? Also, can a dovetail be milled into the front sight area or will a new front sight need to be staked on? I think the closest Gunsmith to me is Alan Tanaka in Gardena. Does anyone know if this is something he can do?

Sorry for the questions, I don't know too much about working on a Beretta 92FS.

    Thanks for the help.

Not 100% sure but you might be stuck, you alway get a 92A1 (or one of the newer models), which is a higher capacity FS with a few nice upgrades, such as removable sights, captured slide lock, internal recoil buffer etc.

If its a regular 92FS, the front sight is milled into the slide. Careless machining of this part can result in a structurally damaged slide. Look up Trijicon -I believe they have a special process to insert a tritium element in the front sight which doesn't compromise the slide structure, but its not cheap. This isn't something you want Burt Bubba the Gunsmith to work on as a screwup means an expensive phone call to Beretta USA for a new slide.

Yup the front sight isn't removable on a regular 92FS except by grinding/milling/filing it off...and the slide is very thin there to begin with.

Your best route is to contact Trijicon and have them drill out your front sight and install the night sight vial

Trijicon recommends you send your slide to these guys: http://www.tooltechgunsight.com/ It's in the faq on the trijicon web site.
