    There may not be a waiting period, but the forms and background check you go through to get a gun in Canada is significantly more severe and infringes far more on your right to privacy: the police have you list (and will call) all of your significant others from the last two-three years and ask them if they can think of any reason you shouldn't be allowed to own a gun.
