So they had a key?! Inside job I bet.

No it was a stack-on, key accessible safe. 2 keys came with the safe, one was in my father's possession the entire time while he was out of town, and the other was stashed away in a spot so discrete that only himself, myself, and my sister knew about it. Obviously the variable here being my younger sister, they knew where the key was, opened the safe with it, only took two of my high end weapons, then re-locked the safe and put the key back in the hiding spot as if we wouldn't notice it. There was not a single sign of forced entry into the house or the safe, which is why I'm 99% sure it was an inside job. I honestly believe my sister doesn't know who did it, but I'm also 99% sure it was someone in connection to her or one of her friends.

I know now to take my security a lot more seriously, and I agree with being the only one to know my combination or whereabouts of my keys. The only reason I allowed my father to have a key is because he's definitely at the age where he couldn't defend himself from a home-invader in a fist fight, so I believed giving him extra security in having access to my home-security weapons would give me peace of mind. Of course that was exploited and now I have to deal with the consequences. I can only hope my firearms aren't used to harm anyone else.

A "stack-on" is a locking cabinet, not a safe. They can easily be defeated with a good crow bar.

This sounds like someone the sister knows........

^^agree. Which is why I suggested getting the serial numbers to local gun stores.

I can tell you this, OP, ammo bros is the largest gun store in the area...less than 2 miles from long beach. They know about this situation now, and will be watching for your guns.

Well the safe was inspected by my father, and no signs of forced entry were apparent. The safe was closed and locked when he went to open it the first time after noticing all of the accessories scattered around it. From what he says, it appeared to be opened and closed/locked up again with a key.

Yeah, I know Ammo Bros, and I'm also going to contact a few of the Turner's in the area too.

+1, Your sister most likely holds the answer as to who stole it.

                  Seriously,

side door left unlocked, used hidden key to open and re-lock your cabinet. The location of which could only be known to people inside your home.

Happens when your Dad is away, and your sister was also not at home.

Hate to break it to you, but your sister knows who has your guns

your sister knows who has your guns. no thief would ever bother to re-lock and only take 2 of the firearms inside. was anything else missing, like computers, Ipods or game systems? if nothing else is missing the thief knew what he/she wanted and specifically where to find it.

'OP, I'm sorry for your loss and I hope this works out for you but please take this piece of advice: GET A REAL SAFE to protect what you have left. What you had your weapons in is considered a locking cabinet. The security of a locking cabinet is almost nonexistent. If you buy a safe that has a locking mechanism more complex than a simple key you'll increase your security level about a hundred times. A combination or key code is something that can't be as easily picked up by people that don't have the authority to access that safe. I'm not saying that a "real" safe will make you invulnerable to attack, but it's going to take a lot more than grabbing a key and making away with the goods. Again, I hope you find your stuff. Keep us posted...

I don't always save the world, but when I do, it's in 24 hours or less...

I appreciate all of the help and advice from you guys. I honestly believe that my sister doesn't know the exact people who did this, but I'm also 99% sure that her big mouth is what got them stolen in the first place. I explained the severity of the situation to her and told her to desperately keep an ear out in her friends circle if any information pops up. She hangs around with a bad crowd, but I know she wouldn't do anything to try and ruin my life as well, she's smarter than that at least.

An old mac laptop was stolen as well, yet a brand new one was right next to it, but remained there. I am positive this was an inside job, and it makes me worry even more. They obviously weren't after cash, because there were a ton of other valuables that would have been a lot easier to sell off than two firearms...talk about being the hardest/hottest thing to get rid of.

Yeah, I'll definitely be investing into a real safe when I return, the stack on was just so they weren't sitting in hard cases in the garage while not in use. I'll save up the money and invest it into a nice locking safe with a pin pad. I've informed my father to change the location of the remaining key, and to make sure my sister NEVER finds out where it is. That's the price I pay for trying to have peace of mind while I was away.

Also my so called "guard dog" back home is going to be eating nothing but dry kibbles for the next month for letting this happen :P
