    Is this FUD?

So I was at "The Range" in Fresno tonight and talking to the guys behind the counter and ask if they are brining in any of the S&W MP15's with BB or whatever and he said no.

    BUT

He claimed that the manager was at the SHOOT show and talking to the SIG rep when the SIG rep said that they will be bringing a 5.56 rifle with pistol grip that has approval, with a letter to come with every rifle, of the DOJ due to an epoxed mag well.

    Anyone know if thats true?

The Range in Fresno charges $50 for a PPT.

IMHO they are not honest and I wouldn't take their word for anything.

Dunno, but for the benefit of any lurking SIG reps:

SIG556 with a factory bullet button? I'll buy one. It's an interesting rifle, and I'd like to reward the first manufacturer who takes this first step.

SIG556 with a non-PG stock and drop-free mags? Sure, sounds cool.

SIG556 with an epoxied mag well? No thanks!

Without going too far into it, you should expect both rifles to be available in California in the not too distant future and without and DOJ "permanent" silliness.

I was visiting a few local (NorCal) gun stores today and in one - a store owner who seems pretty well plugged in to what's going on with CA, DOJ & our AW foolishness - opined the same thing, but couldn't recall the company involved other than saying it was one of the biggies.

Aside from the guns coming in, the legitimacy this lends (if accurate) is quite encouraging. At another store one of the clerks answered a question about ARs by saying they don't stock parts because ARs are illegal in CA. So there are definitely minds to change.

The Sig 556 is already in California. Get one and have an out of state dealer modity it before sending to your local dealer.

I was at Fort Courage Armory today and Sig's Western Regional Manager was there with a whole bag of goodies. We got to fondle all kinds of beautiful pieces (X5's are awesome!). I was extremely impressed with P250's DAO trigger, it felt like there were rollers and rails inside - ultra smooth and relatively light. My first gun purchase when I move in the next couple of months is probably going to be a P250. Sig is currently trying to fit this gun with a mag disconnect to bring it to Kommiefornia, so there's hope for this revolutionary modular pistol.

Now back to the topic. Firstly, Sig is indeed going to start importing Sig 556 rifles with the factory maglock device. It's going to be similar to a Prince 50, so the rifle would have to be loaded from the top. However, you definitely have the option of replacing it yourself if you are so enclined. The rifles will ship with 5-round AR mags instead of the plastic Sig mags.

Secondly, Sig is developing a "sporting" stock specifically for California market that will do away with the pistol grip and the collapsible stock. They will also replace the flash supressor with a muzzle break and thus we will be able to enjoy detachable mags (including pre-ban 30-rounders). Personally, I think the rifle will look pretty goofy, but we have to give props to the first major manufacturer to make an effort to support California firearms enthusiasts.

There is a new version coming out soon based on the 550 sniper rifle. It will have a 24-inch heavy barrel (no flash suppressor, muzzle break or compensator) and a PRS stock. I think it's about 4 months away.

The rifle is 100% made in the US and I bet you'll never guess who makes all their barrels.

In all honesty, I can't say that I am terribly impressed with the 556. I think there are better options for the money.

              Hope this helps.

If they come out with a usable version that drops mags I would buy one on principle.

Seconded. I would definitely enjoy a "sporting" stock 5.56 rifle with detachable mags and good accuracy out of the box. Hopes of that died with the RX4. Any idea on when that model will come out? I only hope they don't up the price and that it doesn't discourage Blackstar Arms from continuing work on their rifle.

Definitely NOT FUD. SIG is producing a CA-compliant 556. As odesskiy said, Randy (SIG's Western States Sales Manager) was at the store last night and laid it out for us. A colapsing stock and SIG-maufactured Price50 tpye mag lock is one version and a fixed stock, no pistol grip and NO epoxied mag well is the other. That one will be detachable mag capable!!!

The idea of a major manufacturer giving shooters in CA a viable black rifle is cause to stand and cheer. It's no lie that the SIG won't be cheap but it's also no lie that SIG has the deep pockets to go toe-to-toe with our "beloved" DOJ. That alone deserves some support. I've already got a 556 on order to support their efforts. Who knows. Maybe this will push some of the other manufacturers over the edge to support us as well.

Any word on when the CA-556 will be coming out?

EDIT: Also, what would the non-pistol grip stock look like? I was just checking out pictures of the 556, and I can't imagine what they would do, unless they go with a MM-type grip. If they do, there should be some license fees paid out for that... Same with the "Prince50-type" maglock.

Interesting. The guy at the range was very specific on the epoxied mag though. maybe he's wrong.

If its a prince 50 type mag lock then it is one that can be undone very easily. If that does manifest it's self in CA then wouldn't that be defacto DOJ support for the current prince 50?

It's good to see Sig doing this. Maybe they took notice of how Stag, DSA, and Lauer had huge backlogs from all the orders coming out of California two years ago. Maybe they're just a bit smarter than Fulton. Whatever the reason, it's good to see Sig doing this. I'm saving up my money and will have to sell a rifle to make room in my gun safe.
