    Going Dinosaur Hunting...

Well, like the title says im going back in time for the most dangerous game, Dinosaurs! Before i take my 160 million year trip back in time im wondering what do you fellow calgun members think i should bring? Obviously space is limited in our time capsule so i will limit it to 6 fire arms.

Some of the big game will be T-rex, Spinosaurus, Giganotosaurus, Carcharodontosaurus, Therizinosaurus, as well as the Velociraptor and any other lizard that looks at me funny with a long confusing name.

Now the big question is M82 Barrett or the 4-bore?

Oh yea and dont worry, ill pick up my brass

Very interesting looking; how are the ballistics of it though ?

A Glock could not hold up to the rigors of time travel so a 1911 in 10mm.

If you want something at least marginally man-portable and not some kind of explosive round, then I think this is the best you'll get.

A smaller rifle round would be enough for a velociraptor; they were the size of wolves (nevermind the JP movie version; those were more along the lines of Deinonychus).

            I like the Barrett XM-109 25mm for Dino's

It's better to have it, and not need it, then to need it, and not have it.

dinasaurs have no chance against a Gau 8 avenger. loaded with HE rounds it would bust the scales right off a t rex and straight into its gut about 3900 times in a minute.

the only problem is carrying the thing. and, of course the insane recoil.

bah screw it, i would just saddle up on a dinasaur, and mount machine guns on its head and go attack other dinasaurs.

Nothing less than a 57mm recoiless rifle and two ammo bearers/loaders. Flank security with M79 40mm grenade launchers. Then, maybe I'd consider it!

                    Mild understatement?

Given the primitive nervous system, small size of the brain and thick skull protection, I'm pretty sure you don't want a T-Rex or other large meat eater anywhere near you if you are only carrying a shoulder fired weapon. Its barely going to feel anything that is not taking out BIG chunks of flesh with each round. (Magazine fed RPG anyone?)

Standoff is your friend. Two to three hundred yards away from a big pile of dead stinking meat with a .50 cal sniper with explosive bullets and flank security of a couple of drum fed 40mm grenade launchers might do it.

In a Jurassic jungle, just like swimming in the ocean, you have entered the food chain...

I think we can finally put to bed the "What gun for when the terminators come back through time?" question.
