Electronic ear-pro for indoor range, worth it?

I have been toying with the idea of picking up a set of those electronic ear muffs for a while. Currently I use a set of $3 winchester ear plugs I picked up at Wal-mart and they get the job done, for the most part, I don't feel like I am going deaf after a trip to the range but they allow me to still hear well enough to hear range commands and listen and give feedback when I am giving the GF basic instructions.

Are electronic ears really worth it for the price? How well do they work for noise reduction and do they really work well as far as hearing normal conversation levels of sound? What are a decent brand to look at without breaking the bank on. Want to set an absolute maximum of $100 IF they are really worth that much but ideally I would like to be closer to the $50 price range.

I have been using Peltor Tac 6's for over 15 years. They work for shotgun and rifle as well. About $60 on Amazon. The neckband model is more versatile

Check out a pair of Howard Leight R-01526 Impact Sport Electronic Earmuffs. They're running for under $50 a pair on amazon and they work great. There's tons of reviews out there for them and most of the reviews have the Howard Leights rated as the best bang for your buck electronic earmuffs out there.

Yes, they are worth it.

I wear a $60 electronically amplified set of muffs along with a $13 set of surefire earplugs. This combination allows me to hear and understand spoken words at normal (not shouting) volumes, along with making the "bams" not hurt my hearing.

Well worth it. Try a good set of e-muffs and you will never look back.

A lot of brands include connections for your Istuff and radios.

Just make sure you get a good NRR. It is more important to not hear the loud stuff than it is to hear everything else.

20 is bad, 25 and up is good. Muffs and plugs when necessary.

I have handed out a lot of them to new shooters. It makes learning more comfortable when you can hear what is going on. Female shooters seem to enjoy learning how to shoot more when they can communicate easily.

Absolutely worth it.

I use Howard Leight Impact Sport electronic cans combined with foam 3M ear plugs I bought at Lowes in a big bag. Together, I don't have issues when the guy in the lane next to me is shooting a hand cannon and I can also hear conversations without people having to scream.

Electronic cans can range greatly in price but I'm convinced that my Impact Sports were some of the best purchases I've made under $50. Down the road I'll eventually upgrade to MSA Sordin or something like that just because I'm interested in seeing the performance difference between $45 and $250. Remember, your hearing is worth more than the cost of top shelf ear protection!

By the way, while we're on the topic of hearing protection...how many of you guys are inserting foam plugs into your ear incorrectly?

I've used Peltor Tac6s for several years and they are great. I've also got a pair of the Howard Leight Impact Sport Electronic Earmuffs. The Howard Leights are not as low profile as the Peltors, so they get bumped loose when shooting a rifle. They also do a horrible job in the Noise Cancelling department overall compared to the Peltors.

BTW, I always double up (foam & ear muffs). Its the only way to be sure.

I just recently switched from plugs to Tac6's and man, they are great. Comfortable, and I can hear people talk!

I got the wife a set of those Caldwell cheapos from Midway & she loves 'em. Doubled up with the WalMart silicone plugs her beef is she can't hear anything!

I've tried them on their own & they perform as advertised though I always double up with the plugs, especially when the M Forgery guys show up.

I own multiple sets, from cheap foam to expensive non electronic. Just picked up some electronic ones (after debating like you) Mostly for my girl as she needs instruction but doesn't like the noise, from indoor ranges, and typically doubles up (foam and muffs). I figured this way she can double up and still hear me when I give advice. I'm satisfied with the purchase! Honestly, mostly because of the use I get off the range! My model has an audio AUX in. And I use it almost daily, while I do homework and my roommate is watching tv. Or while spraying at the ranch, the tractor/sprayer is noisy, it's nice to cxl that out and listen to music!
