    Heh, heh...revenge on FedEx

I recently sent off a new gun for competition modifications by a gunsmith many states away. Since FedEx screws us by requiring that we send handguns by "FedEx Priority Overnight" (which is twice as expensive as if I was allowed to send it Two-Day service), shipping cost me $68.

Well, since FedEx guarantees that Priority Overnight arrives by 10:00am the next day, but my gun didn't arrive until the day after that, they now get to give me my money back.

So, if you ship a gun by FedEx, make sure you pay attention to the delivery time, and file a refund request whenever appropriate.

Yep. But I'm wondering how often they miss their time obligations but aren't called on it.

But you can't ship a firearm via USPS at all.

That's funny. I receive about half of my c&r's that way. Even had one lost for about a month with them.

I usually catch 'em about 1 time in 4. They've never argued, if the delivery ticket shows after 1000 on the scheduled delivery day, I have a cc credit by the next morning.

                NICE.
"War is a racket. It always has been. It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives. Only a small 'inside' group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many. Out of war a few people make huge fortunes."

Isn't shipping handguns overnight a FEDERAL regulation, and not just FedEx, but EVERYONE has to abide by it?

You're right. But FedEx ups the ante by requiring you to ship Priority Overnight rather than Standard Overnight. Sorry, but I find $68 to ship a small 3lb. box a joke.

Ahhh, that was the part I was missing.

                          Glad I don't ship handguns...$68 a pop? No thanks...

                            NO.

                            He's not right.

Federal law covers delivery to and by a common carrier. FX and UPS tariffs have required overnight shipping for several years.

Try 27CFR Part 478 Sec. 478.31 Delivery by common or contract carrier.

This section requires you to declare there's a gun in the box when you deliver it to the carrier.

It prohibits the carrier from labeling the box as a gun, firearm, weapon, or any other verbage about things that go bang.

It prohibits the carrier from shipping or delivering the package if the carrier has reason to believe the shipment or delivery might be in violation of the law.

Finally, it requires the carrier to get a signature to verify delivery.

I'm not an attorney, and I'm by no means one of the calgunners skilled in reading the law. I can find the atf website. I can read.

I'm concerned that a newb might read your posts and end up with a complete misunderstanding of federal regulations.

Why post without reading the regulations??

USPS allows handguns by FFL dealers. Not for everyone else, though long guns are an exception.
