    BIG 5

i must say i have always been happy with the way BIG 5 treats me. i like cheep military rifles and they always have something i want. my latest purchase is a serb M-48 Mauser. it was already priced at 299 and they gave me 20 % off that. i like looking at what i am going to buy. i was a little short of cash and was going to partially use my american express. he said he would put it in the back and give me 10 days to come up with the balance. that is not a big 5 policy. i have never been treated bad at big 5. now if they would sell SKSs and Mosin M- 44s i would always be broke.

went into Big 5 once when they had M38s, M44s and M91/30s... I couldn't decide on what to buy... the Manager said "choose any two for the price of one."...

You can't beat the fact they treat gun buyers like family.

I have to say, the three times I have been into Big 5 to look at guns, they greeted me and got to me when they could. I wish they carried handguns. Honestly, the guy behind the counter didn't know much about guns, but I do all my knowledge shopping before I go to the store for anything.

when the guy behind the counter doesnt know something about guns...he says so. Compare that to "other" stores where they just make things up...LOL

the staff at my local Big 5 stores treat me well. i occasionally go to the la puente store on weekends, and the el monte store during my work week.

if they had lower ammo prices, i'd go there more often.

            Ok I'll chime in.

Couple weeks ago Big 5 manager in Capitola was providing excellent service to about 5 other customers, while he was letting me fondle a couple different long guns. He didn't miss a beat.

So true! I will go to Big 5 any day. Especially like the other poster mentioned, if they lowered their ammo prices.

I always have great service at big 5. Prices at the local one are a bit steep for me though. Here if it's on sale it's the same price as others shops are everyday. When shopping for my mini 14 they wanted almost $100 more than the other shops. Sucks cus I like shopping there.

there was a time when Big 5 had layaway plans for firearms purchases.

I have bought a couple of guns from Big 5 over the years. I bought a Mossberg 500 from the Chino store about a year ago and was extremely pleased with the service. The gun dept. mgr. was very knowledgeable and helped me check out at least a half dozen models before I made my choice.

My very first Mosin was from Big 5 & the salesman showed me it was an ex-sniper.
Spent a lot of weekday mornings at 10am at Big5 when their new shipments came in
so I could have first pick.

I was gonna buy Ruger 10/22 and Moss 500, the most common.

But the salesman suggested I shoulder Rem 597 and Rem 870 and I'm so glad he did.

Whenever I try someones 10/22 or 500 they just feel so wrong compared to my Rems.

I've also gotten nothing but accurate, honest info about the condition of any Mosins including those "still in the back".

For a "chain store" they could teach other LGS a few things about salesmanship.
