Walmart ammo fail

The computer used to prompt them to ask if the ammo was for a rifle or pistol. You never know what some of these Walmart cretins will come up with. I had one insist that I pull out my iD so she could scan it, caused quite a scene she refused to just look at it as I held it, she insisted that I remove it and allow her to run it through the mag stripe reader on the register. Walmart POLICY is to higher sub 100 IQ because they're easier to control/abuse.

I'm going to take flack for this, I'm sure. One, I don't shop Walmart for anything for many reasons, none being their ammunition policy. It wouldn't apply to me anyway.

My take is, it's their ball, their rules. If I were an employee at Walmart or any other store that had policies, I would not risk my job for you no matter how much you stamped your feet or tried to prove me wrong. I wouldn't be the one to take it up with anyway nor would the manager if that was a store wide policy. It wouldn't matter if I agreed with you or not; it wouldn't be worth losing my job. Simple as that.

I do agree with all of you that it's ridiculous and bad business for a company and it's managers to not know and follow state law if you're going to sell a restricted item.

At the Walmarts where I live, the people do ask a younger-looking person for ID (sadly, I no longer qualify for that--I'm officially old now!). If between 18 and 21, they do actually ask if it's for a rifle or pistol, in accordance with the GCA. It even comes up on the cash register ("RIFLE/PISTOL?").

Whoever the folks were at that Walmart obviously didn't know the law.

As a side note, I've always found it ironic that you can be drafted for war at 18 years old, so you're old enough to die for your country, but you're not viewed as old enough to have, say, a S&W Model 10 in .38 Special or even a Ruger Mark III target pistol in .22LR. Something just ain't right about that. "Man enough to get forcibly drafted to die for your country, then man enough to own any gun Representative/Senator So-and-so can own."

Can't understand why people even buy ammo at WalMart. If you have a credit or debit card, just buy on-line. Much better prices, less hassle. For .22s just buy 5k or 10k at a time, then you won't have to put up with bozos like this.

1. Certain Wal-Mart stores aren't the only place that won't sell .22LR ammo to people under 21.
2. Are there not handguns that use .22LR ammo?

Yeah, prices are great online most of the time, until shipping is factored in. Plus, I don't have to buy 1,000 rounds at a time to get a decent price.

There is no way they can tell if you're buying the ammos for a rifle or a handgun. I don't blame them.
