    Legal? Perhaps

Good idea? Nope. Cops aren't really in a good mood on Halloween, the freaks and idiots come out in spades so I would just avoid the entire situation.

The OP makes me wonder about your mental capacity. Are you a grown up?

Yeah, go walk around with a boltless AR playing dress up Rambo/soldier and tell us how that works out. I'm sure you'll get a lot of attention.

Halloween is a joke for adults. If you have to dress up, dress up with something funny not something lame like a COD character especially w/an actual firearm (shootable or not).

This is legitimately one of the stupidest ideas I've ever heard proposed. On top of that, you decided to ask an internet forum for legal advice in what is clearly a very grey area instead of the local authorities. No offense, but the last thing we need in California is some idiot roaming the streets on Halloween around a bunch of intoxicated people with an AR-15, regardless of the rifle's configuration.

Haven't you read or watched the news the past 10 years? It seems like every Halloween some idiot with a gun/replica gets shot by the police. This would be the Liberals and Democrats Halloween dream come true!

If you insist on wearing this "costume" I would have to ask that you do it outside of California as to avoid adding even further state restrictions to our already deeply impinged upon constitutional rights.

        Happy Halloween.

How about a Super Soaker, if they are still legal?

Just get a cheap airsoft gun from Wally world. One of the clear plastic ones will work: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Crosman-St...Rifle/16536111

                          Conversely...

What if I am passing out candy to kids. If I stay inside my doorway, can I have a holstered sidearm and a loaded AR? That's cool, right?

Whether something is legal or not you should always use common sense.

I'm sure the costume would look fine without a gun. Also, one less thing for you to worry about when your out drinking. It's not only you, but I'm sure your going out with friends. Imagine if they're wasted and decide it would be funny to point it at a police officer, home owner, or someone who might be carrying while tricker treating with their kids. It may not end well..You have a responsibility not only for yourself, but for those around you.

I thought about that last year because I was too lazy to buy a costume and just go in the closet and get my gear out..

It's basic OC so the same rules apply... I wasn't 100% on OC laws and regulations and didn't feel like explaining to everyone let alone my family who were hardly ok with me owning guns in the first place..

More of a head ache than worth it IMO. So I pulled out the same costume from the year before haha

I was too lazy to get into a costume last year so I decided to go as a detective/undercover cop. Had a gold shield clipped to my belt, carried a full size 1911 (BB Gun) on a Serpa holster under a suit, had a Sheriff lapel pin on my jacket lapel. I went to a club party being thrown by a friend. Upon entry, security check, explained to security what my costume was and I got in no problem. The problem came when security told the the management of the place and she came up to me and started asking if I was with the Sheriff's office and about my gun. Too much trouble to deal with and never again.
