As much as I respect the 223 round, I feel that for desert work, the 308 is definitely superior. Same thing if you're on the water.

      Now the question-
Will they be issued real ammo?

It was the 1899 Hague Convention.

I believe every branch of the Armed Forces get to play with these. I've seen a few at the range.

Some as-issued M14s are still in-theater in Afghanistan.

Is any of this furniture available for civilian purchase to convert existing M14's to look like EBR's? Now that im in CA im looking for a rifle just like this, no pistol grip, low mag capacity.

The AR15 is a 400 yard rifle and even at 400 yards its not that great. Its good for close and medium range stuff. Its the only rifle you need for a civilian ranch or security rifle. Once you start talking about long range mountain / desert threats, or extremely open suburban areas (Kansas) you need a bigger round.

Proper tool for the job at hand. That is why I argue against the 50 yard zero. Thats a SWAT/LEO/SF urban zero. You wouldnt stand a chance against a 350 yard threat if you had a 50 yard zero. ... and that is why the Army is issuing these.

Taliban/ al-Qaeda forces are not losing long range engagments...maybe not winning either, but a stalemate is not doing us any good.

The problem is not just the weight & size of the ammo load-out, but also the fact our Government has too great an eye on the bottom dollar when military spending comes in play. Democrates have a clear history of trimming away funds for specialized weapons.

A better plan would be to turn to the greatest advantage of the AR15... and go with a new upper larger caliber that uses the 5.56x45 magazine.... anyone know what that round would be? (joking)
