No. But it's a straight suicide mission. So kiss your *** goodbye if you plan on shooting at whoever is trying to take them. Because they most likely will not run away. And you will most likely be outnumbered and outgunned unless your whole neighborhood joins in the fight. I think we can play the Rambo role in the internet but if something actually happened it would be completely different. I doubt we will EVER have to be in that situation though. There is just too many guns to go door to door taking them.

If I die in 5 minutes fighting it, oh well. I'm not handing a single gun or bullet to the government.

Definitely. It would make people pretty damn angry and take up arms. But do you think the government is that stupid to not think that through? I think what they would do is wipe out our communication. So internet, phones, and whatever other source of communication would be gone. So people here wouldn't know if guns were illegaly being seized in other parts of the country.

Silly questions on a lot of levels.

Nearly 50% of American households possess firearms. I haven't met a gun owner yet that would kindly turn over his arms if asked nicely or not. So that's 1/2 of 300 million roughly, so 150M. Lets further assume only 50% of those would actually resist. Even if they are rag tag, 75,000,000 souls is ALOT of fighting.

The US military, sworn to uphold the Constitution, would have to accept orders in contravention of that oath.

The Constitution is purposely difficult to amend (requiring a 2/3rds vote in the house and senate) in essence, it would have to be a very popular idea among the citizenry. The framers specifically created these mechanisms to ensure that no president, party, faction or coalition could never have the power to overcome the popular will of the people.

In order to enforce such a dictate, the US military would have to fire on American citizens. Even in Syria, with a dictatorial tradition, a sizeable portion of their military found it too unbearable to fire on fellow countrymen and defected to the rebellion including large portions of the upper echelons.

In the country where democracy was born, the idea that the constitution could be suspended ... is just silly.

CNN (so you know the tilt) recently polled the American people on guns and gun control (after the Sihk shooting). Some of their findings -- "But 54% oppose a limit on the number of guns an individual can own, and only one in ten think that all Americans should be prevented from owning guns."

Clearly . . . an unpopular idea even amongst non owners.

I'd just bury them for later use because if that did happen our country would be in a guerrilla war stance mighty darn quick.

I'd love to dismiss the possibility of this happening..

                            HOWEVER..

An Obama re-election, with a couple more young, ultra-liberal supreme court appointees will make this a distinct possibility.

The 2nd amendment will remain intact, on paper. However the judicial interpretation of it could be reversed, with a decision that individual citizens simply have no right to own firearms. A 5-4 or even 6-3 liberal majority on the SCOTUS would be a disaster for the 2A.

I hope all the "protest voters" remember that in November.
