Hi all, I am writing this thread out of a safety concern that just happened to me with the 22 Evolution from CMMG.
I just purchased a .22 Evolution kit from "OC Armory" in Laguna Hills, California. I went home and opened the packaging for the kit. Included was a 22 Evolution conversion BCG, and a 10 round magazine. I removed the 5.56 BCG in my AR15 after removing the magazine and safety checking the weapon. The chamber and barrel were completely clear. before I dropped in the 22 Evolution kit, I took the rubber cap that protects the 5.56 round shaped conversion chamber that houses the firing pin. I dropped in the Evolution 22 conversion, and locked my takedown pin back into place. I then racked my charging handle to see the action of the kit and how it would function. To my extreme surprise, a LIVE round of .22lr ammo dropped out!!!! I did not put the magazine in the weapon and it was unloaded off to the side. The round was a .22lr with an "F" stamped on the bottom, presumably from Federal ammunition. I utilize remington and CCI ammo, and there was none of that in the vicinity, and what I did have was still in box with the seal open. I immediately called OC armory and described the issue, but they denied the feasibility and any wrongdoing on their part. Luckily I followed all of the safety rules so I didn't have a negligent discharge in a presumably safe rifle. Either way, I just wanted to post this as a remember to all that a gun should always be treated as loaded, and I have to ask, WTF happened that a live round was in the kit!?
Has anyone ever had this happen? I do not know if it is the fault of CMMG or OC Armory, but somewhere along the line someone dropped a live round in there and it sure wasn't me.
