Air guns discussion

it would be nice to see the law makers react as quickly to abuse of patients by health insurance companies, that is the area where some serious crimes are being committed..
They should just ban air guns then if it such a hassle to own one, then it would not be hypocritical , look but don't touch, that's how I feel. They absolutely cannot put a bb gun on the same level as a real weapon. And why it is not allowed to be shipped to California residents? Then they should start issue licenses for these if they treat them as firearms, so people don't have to be penalized for someone else's irresponsible actions.Last edited by timofb; 02-10-2008, 8:08 AM.Comment

Do some looking around on the airgun boards I'm sure that you can figure it out. I have a backyard that is about 30x60 and I shoot in it all of the time with no problems. Archer airguns offers a silent pellet trap that you can either buy from him or make for yourself if you can make a square box. I made my own from their design and it is dead quite and really cool. To quiet things down further, Umarex makes a muzzle break that is nothing more than their silencer that they sell legally all over the rest of the world. The difference is that they have cut big holes in the side of it so it no longer funcutions as a silencer. Seeing as we are dealing with pellet rifles, one simple layer of masking tape around the outside of the thing will make it "mousefart" quite for most applications. Although I have never tried it, it is my understanding that a real powder burning firearm just blows the tape out. Gamo also markets their "Whisper" model which has a silencer permanently attached to it and if you really want to step up then call Tim at Mac1 airguns and he'll sell you a completely legal and ATF approved .22 LD CO2 pistol that is so accurate that it will blow your mind. Between the silent pellet trap and the near dead quite air rifle your neighbors will never even know that you are in the backyard.
So long as you do not do anything as bone stupid as dropping birds out of the trees in their backyards or shooting out of the confines of your own things will probably be ok. Now if you happen to be the poor S.O.B. that has the bleeding heart, ultra nosey, liberal for a neighbor, well then that is a crying shame for you. When and if Johnny Law knocks on your door, he's going to say, "hey don't do that anymore". I still remember the time I knocked a crow off of the wire into the backyard at my buddies house while we were home on lunch one day. It was an awesome headshot and little did I know that it dropped into the guys swimming pool!! Johnny Law showed up, said "great shot!, don't make me come back!".Last edited by Rule .308; 02-10-2008, 8:22 AM.Comment

I will keep my eye out for crows and liberal neighbors.
only if I manage to ship here what I want from a reputable air gun retailer. Silencer is a must have these days, I seen some rather unconvincing examples made out of pvc pipes.
Also it would be nice to know locations where we can openly shoot our air guns, it would be cool to make a map for those that are interested.

my Crosman C11 mini review:
For $35 I think it is a good deal, shoots up to 480fps, with new CO2 does damage through about 80 pages of a paperback book, gun has a good feel to it, but it still feels like a toy
and by no means can be considered a firearm, so I feel bad for starting this whole topic here already... but they say it's a firearm so we will pretend it is
It has a decent accuracy @10 feet, hitting 10ns,9,8ts @30 feet I was getting a 7, 6, 5, 4, 8ts, however shoots slightly to the right of where I am aiming, but maybe it is jut me. Gun is loud, CO2 is easy to install, my biggest complaint is the clip, spring that hold the bbs in seems a little weak and probably will quickly wore out, and I feel the trigger could be a little more sensitive, should not have a long pull before firing, and it would be nice if this pistol had a mechanism so it would stop firing when it runs out of bbs.
I give this gun a 3.5 out of 5, the 480 fps and the price make up the difference. Similar in power models cost over $100. If this thing had blow back mechanism it would make it really cool.

good new guys, pyramidair ships to california after all
but they told me that silencers are illegal to put on bb guns, and they don't offer custom made ones. I want to quite this c11 down. Any ideas for a solution? Somebody mentioned before that Umarex offers one.

NOCASA
NOCASA is a loosely organized group of air gun aficionados, dedicated to the promotion of air gun shooting in general, and American Air Gun Field Target shooting in particular. To that end we hold a number of events each year to provide an outlet for both activities. Our events are held in Concord California at the United Sportsman's Club under the auspices of the Diablo Rod and Gun Club. Directions to the Club are located here.
We hold two types of events. One we call a "Fun Shoot" where any air gun power plant, any caliber and any power level is allowed. These events feature a wide variety of fun and reactive targets, provided by the shooters themselves. Among the targets might be conventional field targets, spinners, paper bulls eye targets, water balloons, shatter-blast discs (or equivalent) air gun silhouette targets etc. We do not allow non-biodegradable destructible targets like bottles, but the "All American Tin Can" is welcome. Anything that can be picked up after use is probably o.k. If in doubt, contact us in advance.
Our other type of event is American Air Gun Field Target. Details on the sport can be found here.
Field Target is shot at ranges up to 55 yards, at steel knockdown targets, usually from a seated shooting position. Any type of air gun is allowed, though two types dominate the sport.
Spring Piston
Pre-Charged Pneumatic
These two types of gun normally shoot in different classes, called Piston Class, and Open Class (PCPs). The only restriction is that any gun used must shoot under 20 foot pounds of energy (fpe). Typically, only PCP air guns are capable of exceeding this restriction (there are a few exceptions) so if you are shooting anything other than a PCP, you will probably be o.k. We recommend air guns capable of shooting at least 10 fpe, but even that is not a requirement, only a suggestion, because lower powered air guns may have some difficulty knocking down some targets at the ranges we shoot at.
Requirements:
There are only a few requirements that participants need be aware of at our events.
1. Safety is of paramount importance to us, both to protect all participants, but also to ensure our ability to continue shooting at our venue. All shooters are expected to observe our safety rules to the letter. These rules are few in number and will be reviewed at the beginning of each event.
2. Eye protection is to be worn at ALL times, except when inside the actual clubhouse at our Field Target venue.
3. Shooters must be at least 8 years old. Shooters under 16 must be supervised by an adult at all times while they are shooting.
4. After shooting with us once or twice, if you decide you wish to participate on a regular basis, you will have to officially join Diablo Rod and Gun Club (DR&GC) for insurance purposes. DR&GC only allows new members to join at an actual meeting so you will have to attend one on the first Thursday of the month. In subsequent years you can re-register by mail. The cost to join for a first time member is $25.00 initiation fee and $25.00 membership, with a $5.00 discount for NRA members (total of $45.00 or $50.00) Subsequent years cost only $25.00 for renewal, if you renew by the time your membership expires. If you are late you may be dinged the initiation fee again.
That's about it. Simple, isn't it? Come prepared to shoot and have fun. At Field Target events, a cushion to sit on is recommended. If you explore the AAFTA site linked above, you will see why cushions are used. Our venue has no shade, so a hat is also helpful. Check out the AAFTA site and you will learn all you need to know to begin shooting Field Target.

I know what you're talking about. By "descendants" I mean all the British colonies (like Australia, etc) that have gun control up the wazoo and crime to match it.Does that include all their descendants in the US?

Just the kind of statement someone who has no idea what goes on outside of the US would make!
The US is pretty much unique with it's 2A right written into the constitution, where as "old world" countries and their colonies have restricted the ownership of firearms a very long time ago to prevent the poplulace from an uprising or revolution.
You don't know how lucky you are, since you were born with a right, people in many countries would love to have the same rights that you just inherited. It's not that people haven't got the B***s, once those rights are taken away, you won't get them back.
I understand that weapons control was pretty much inherent to all of Britain's constituents, but being born much more "free" than they are I choose to criticize British and British-esque policies, especially when one of them come onto mine or someone else's gun videos on YouTube and tell us how we're all crazy Americans for owning guns.Comment
