Keep us informed if you find a 450 bushmaster bolt.

    Places to try would be...

    Trident armory
    franklin armory
    Bushmaster(duh)

They carry uppers chambered in that round

      Heres a start...

Expensive though. Might as well buy the whole bcg for about $75 more

So I got to thinking today about my barrel and the matching lugs. This is where the locking lugs got there chip. It seems there are 2 small chips on the barrels lugs as well here are some picks.

Last ones a bit blurry when I zoomed in sorry. It also looks like I missed a spot when I cleaned it last XD

Should I be worried about the barrel now too??

My thoughts is everything like bolt carriers, bolts and sometimes barrels and lowers should meet some kind of mil spec standard for quality but not necessarily for dimensions. Everything else who cares. I agree if manufactures of parts and accesories never broke away from "mil spec" the AR world would be much boring.. Sorry I dont mean to hijack this thread.....

I didn't slam mil-spec, I slammed the fan boy mindset of always yelling mil-spec when they don't even know what they are talking about...

              I want a Coke please. Dude make sure that's mil-spec, I wouldn't drink a non-mil-spec coke
I am looking for a dishwasher. Dude check with BCM, They are mil-spec.

Now lets talk about mil-spec. Please direct me to the mil-spec that says a 450 bushmaster's bolt has to be MPI or HT inspected? How about you furnish me with a list of criteria that the NDI Tech has to comply with. How about you furnish me with the ISO that shows Bushmasters manufacturing NEEDS to comply with a mil-spec?

As for 5.56 bolts in AR15s...
As long as you are using sound manufacturing techniques, processes, good quality materials and QA, there is no need to MPI & HT inspect every single bolt. The failure rate DOESNT CHANGE. The same amount of bolts fail even if you test every one. MPI & HT testing stops poor manufacturing the same as batch testing. The failure you will find are extremely rare to find on a single bolt. When you find a flaw, you find it on dozens in a lot. Its so rare that even bolts MPI and HT tested STILL FAIL AT THE SAME RATE. Ask a guy in the military if he has ever seen a M16/M4 Bolt fail... the answer will be YES.

Am I saying you can buy a bolt off of e-bay from china and have the same quality as a Bolt from BCM.. HELL NO! I am saying an ArmaLite, CMT, Bushmaster or RRA batch tested bolt is. You have the same chance of a failure with a BCM bolt as you do with a CMT.

AND I AM SAYING... not every dam thing in the firearm industry needs to be mil-spec...or do you think the AK47 or AK74 is crap because its not mil-spec? How about the HK...those are crap because they are not tested as per "mil-spec"... I can go on and on... PROVING WITH LOGIC AND REASON... hundreds of firearms go into war and fight zombie aliens and they are not "mil-spec" tested...guess what...they do just fine.

Moral of the story, if you don't know what you are doing, don't dick with it until you have been properly instructed.

It's due to me removing the firing pin.... Seemed like a good idea at the time.

Tell me, how does assembling a rifle with some parts missing seem like a good idea? Trying to figure out the thought process behind that.

Ehhh I was paranoid about someone stealing my gun and injuring or killing someone with it, leaving me open to a possible civil suit. So I pulled out the firing pin so the weapon couldn't be used. Had I known at the time it could cause this kind of damage I would not have done that, obviously.

Yes it wasn't my smartest move, thank you for noticing. Now can we please get back on topic.

Chip off front of lug...not bad. Not good, but still safe to shoot if you do not see any other damage to that lug. Replace as soon as possible though.

Chip off rear of lug...very bad. Do not even think of shooting.

Oh, now I get it. If that is something you are concerned about, get another firing pin and remove about 1/4" from it. Or better yet get a safe

Ya I was planning on getting a second firing pin. It's a lot cheaper than getting a safe.

Rather than removing just the firing pin, just remove the BCG and secure it. No small parts removed to get lost, and obviously quicker to get into action should you need to.
