Same caliber or branch out?

I have moved into more calibers than I need. And will continue to add to my list. I like building loads up and experimenting, plus some calibers I just find interesting.

personally, i like to diversify a bit; especially where handguns are concerned. from my perspective, it's kind'a like learning to drive a stick; it may come in handy to have familiarity with a particular handgun (at least where pistols are involved). ymmv...

I would branch out to different calibers but it would really depend on your focus and what you're into. Of course when you do this, you'll want to get more guns of that same caliber, just to keep it interesting. If I didn't reload though, I would probably narrow it down just a bit.

As long as you've got a source for the new caliber -- you reload or it's not super exotic, and you can afford to feed your new firearm -- then I wouldn't hesitate.

Most of the caliber wars are silly, however. There are "all-around" calibers that cover many uses, and there are special-purpose calibers that really excel at a specific duty. If you want a firearm that does something none of your others do, then you probably do want a new caliber, otherwise, no.

Most of what I do is practical / field shooting, so I wind up with a lot of .30-'06's, 9mm, .22LR... several other calibers in my collection of course, but nothing really strange. If I decided I wanted to do long-range precision rifle, I wouldn't think twice about getting a .260 Rem, but for now the tried-and-true calibers do what I need, if I'm honest.
